Forces Hospitals Petition

Members of our Armed Forces take part in conflicts on the say so of the Government. The reasons for these are numerous; our Armed Forces take up the challenge and carry out their duties to the best of their abilities. It is only right that adequate facilities are provided within the Service environment to aid injured & disabled personnel.

The NHS is already stretched, beds are limited and PCTs struggle to make ends meet. Is this really the best environment to treat servicemen/women who have been subjected to injuries that many of us can only imagine? A more sensible approach would be to treat these people in facilities dedicated to their needs and surrounded by their comrades. Spare capacity could be used to assist the NHS.

This is a reverse of the current situation and would free up beds and ease the burden in NHS hospitals. Bringing back military hospitals can go some way to providing this service. This is a small price to pay for those people who help to protect our liberty.

I wonder if the Forces Hospital petition result would be similar to the Headley Court petition? We can hope any else have any thoughts? Bex

Reading in today’s paper, the local council have given their approval as well so there’s a bit of good news to brighten a grey day

Paul,

Thanks for that, its wonderful news. One in the eye for the inconsiderate snobs who thought themselves better than our Service Men & Women. Bex

Perhaps this thread has been given added poignancy with the sad and untimely death of Cpl Nick Lock, RAF, in aid of whom the raffle was held at the Red Lion after Legends, I believe?

No words can describe my thoughts at this moment reading the above statement and alot of what ifs spring to mind. Right now exetreme anger is all I can think of, and thats about the passing of a Serviceman I didnt even know. All the more reason to reinstate Military Hospitals. Bex

Signed and thanks for the “heads up”. I have no axe to grind with the NHS staff at all – my niece is a nurse and as has been said, they are over-stretched as it is, without dealing with this as well.

Words fail me at this moment in time. Bex what you have said is very true and very well written.

I work for the NHS, things aren’t good in my area – hospital £43 million in the red….but as for treating members of our armed forces..well give them the best care they deserve, wherever they are.

That house seems a great idea and glad the nimby’s didn’t get their own way – they make me sick. Shame nothing bad will probably ever happen to them.

Its well known that people recover better with love and support from their family and friends but that isnt always possible if they are in a specialist hospital miles away from home, but somewhere like that house would really be a godsend.

Sorry for the rant but this makes my blood boil.

In reply to your ‘shame nothing bad will ever happen to them’ it can be arranged:) but the other side of the coin is that people like that often end up getting what they deserve (can’t wait, they’ll be whinging even more then and serves them right -‘Sorry Mrs/Mr X there’s no way we can treat you nearer your family but there is no suitable unit near your home)

First I’d like to add that the NHS is not in a bad state in all areas of the country. Having had a heart attack in Febuary I’ve only got praise for the staff of the Hospital that have taken care of me, however the system they are made to operate under will see me not getting the final procedure until the end of August. A simple process that should have taken place back in March.
The system is unable to provide the level of care required for the general public of the the UK, so its impossible to provide the UK Armed Forces with anything near the care and support encounted during a conflict.
The Forces hospitals are one cost that needs to be left uncut, sorry increased. I feel very mad after reading that Mail link.

I haven’t posted on here for quite a while, but this thread certainly caught my eye. I served at RNH Haslar back in 1978-1980. I have signed the petition and have passed the link on to my husband, who is currently serving at Shrivenham.
I noticed the link that bexWH773 po a similar attitude if it were theey’d deal withsted and wondered if people were aware of another side to this story – http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=468619&in_page_id=1770

I read that too. Makes you wonder how they would handle it if it were their sons in a hospital in York for example. How would they like to be told ‘We can’t accomodate you close by as the locals don’t want you around’? I think their complaint would swift and loud. Also read a couple of days later that the Government or the MOD had bsically said ‘Tough, it’s happening anyway.’ So fair play to whoever made the decision.

Looks u & I have something in common Mike, distrust of politicians LoL For those that know this name, Colin “Mad Mitch” Mitchell of Argyle & Sutherland Highlanders fame, was a family friend and he lasted 6 months in politics “They (politicians) have no honour”.

Now, as mentioned before, Headley Court, near Epsom, now in the news and I must a say a lovely piccy of part of the building. Theyve had a 30 bed ward opened, better than nothing, but more needs doing. Bex

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/6904915.stm

I agree with Colin Mitchell’s attitude in Aden. ‘B****r the men in Whitehall, I’m the man on the spot, I’ll handle it how I see fit’. Not conducive to further promotion in our armed forces but the only correct attitude in a combat zone.

Are there any military hospitals left in Germany. I was in BMH Iserlon (excuse spelling) for about 5 weeks after an accident and it also catered for the Canadians but the staff all seemed to be brit’s they even had a maternity ward for the dependants of any NATO FORCES.
The treatment there was superb for ALL patients.:D 😀
