From Le figaro (in French).
To summarize:
-The GIGN will grow in size to be able to operate on large scale hostages crisis (Beslan-style), both in France and in foreign countries.
-For this, the GIGN will integrate the Escadron parachutiste d’intervention de la gendarmerie nationale (EPIGN -150 men) and Groupe de s?curit? de la pr?sidence de la R?publique (GSPR -30 men) groups.
-It is expected to reach a 380-men strong force for september 2007 (as compared to about 95 today), an 420 force in 2010.
-This will lead to the possibility to engage a “supercommando force” of about 200 GIGN men, instead of a maximum of 50 today…
-The Chain of command will be simplified
I think it’s a smart move…
