Living the dream

Hey everybody.

As most of you know I got a job with Servisair/Globeground here in Dublin as a PSA (passebger service agent) and I have being training for the past 3 weeks. Well today it was time to put that training into practice and begin shadowing.

This will be a sort of a day in the life of a PSA so if you are interesed in a job in this area it might be worth a read.

I was one of the lucky ones today in I didnt get a very early shift like one of the girls from my training group who started at 0445. I was rostered in at 1000 which meens being there at about 0940 to clock in and report to the supervisor and as it was my first day I got a tour of the stock room which was more like a where to find everything in this huge heap lesson.

My first flight today was to be a Futura flight to Heraklion in Greece. So me and another girl from my group began watching the more expierenced member of staff only for the supervisor to tell us it wasnt fair to have tow of us shadowing one girl so I was moved to another Futura flight going to Lanzarote. This flight was already open a while so the check in area was quite full. I watched as all 182 excluding infants checked in quite early. I was just a little dissapointed that I hadnt got to sit in on this one a little longer but the next part was the exciting bit. Boarding. We headed through the staff secuirity check and down to gate B22 where passengers were already forming. Of coure as soon as we arrive they think its time to board.

The first thing that needs to be done at the gate is the paper work needs to be printed but the printer was bust so we had to invade another gates printer.

Then the phone rang, I picked up the wrong one and someone else picked the right one-just one of those strange things that you had to be there to see how funny it was. We were missing a coupon and without it we were in trouble. So it fell to me to page the passenger which I cocked up by saying the wrong flight number and wrong name. Not to bad considering last week I said gay instead of gate and laughed my brains out over the intercom.

The passenger turned up and we got the coupon and almost immeaditley the dispatcher rang looking for rows towards the back. I pulled and checked passports with another fella while someone else counted and another put the secuirity numbers in. All passengers were there on time and the 737-800 left on time.

Next was break time which gave me a chance to check the game plan for the next week and despite a few very early starts Ill be working on some interesting stuff next week including a Monarch,Eirjet,Czech Airlines,Air Malta and Germanwings as well as a day of Greeting and arrivals but my highlight will be my first long haul flight the Air Canada 767 to Toronto.

Anyway break time over out next assignment was a First Choice 757 to Las Palmas. It was quite to start with so I checked in my first passengers and then took a break when things got busy and jumped on again towards the end. 227 initially were booked onto this flight which incread to 229 and eventually 231.
Surprisingly everyone was checked in a full hour before departure but with 2 seats left to sell all 4 desks had to stay open but eventually we again headed down to the boarding gates this time C44 and the 757 was there waiting along with another FCA 757 on C43.

There was a delay with the refueling and catering so boarding was delayed until after the STA. A much bigger flight this time and I watched the secuirity numbers being entered this time.

So with everyone on we just had to wait until the 757 pushed and then it was time to go home. So we waited and waited an waited. It want actually that long. The lead agent rang the dispatcher and there was a problem with the toilet so that was fixed and it pushed. And that was that day over. Im off for 3 days and my Monarch passengers awaits on Wedensday morning at 0515.

Thanks for the good wishes everybody. I was quite nervous the night before but I was amazed when I went in just how freindly and helpful everybody was. I was also cautios about holiday flights saying I would much prefer scheduled but to be honest the charters are great. People are in high spirits and having a good laugh. nother great thing is after check in and you go to the boarding gate the passengers remember you and will always give you a smile and make a joke about how we have to stay here working and they are off to the sun. Little do they know Im having a btter time then them.
