Dave Richards of Pro-drive fame has headed a consortium to buy Aston Martin!

Prodrive are one of the worlds top motorsports engineering consultants – I don’t see how they can possibly have R&D problems!

I think they should focus on being classic more than being on top of the technology chain. That’d reduce r&d and still get them sales.

The one good thing ford did was rid AML of the debts which were crippling it in the first place.

Yes it is a niche vehicle but AM can survive as long as it is careful with its cash this time.

Buying the firm is just a license to write more cheques.:D
The cost of R&D is huge in that segment…especially when you factor in a small sales volume.
Even with Ford retaining a 10% share, I don’t know how they’ll survive independent of a major auto maker.

Good luck….

Can they maintain the inflow of money and technology, or will standards revert back to pre-Ford days? I hope whoever the backers are dn’t do a TVR or Rover on the company.

Hmmmm… ‘t’is a thought. Lets hope they can continue to make beautiful motors.. It did make me squirm when Ford bought them out, but lets face it, the DB7 and 9 are beautiful cars. Lets hope they can continue.
