A selection of photos from our Christmas holiday. This will cover a few posts as there are a few pictures.

The beautiful Brugge Belfry taken on 26th December. It was damned cold in Brugge but well worth the trip, I would not have missed it for the world!

A lit up street in Brugge.

The trees were filled with these blue lights.

Another lights view.

Brugge Markt lit up at night.

Hornchurch – I agree with your comments. It is easier to communicate in English in the Flanders region, the Walloon region is alot harder. We had a nightmare experience in a place in Mons after we dealt with someone who claimed he spoke and understood English.
Spitfire Pilot – those lights were beautiful, I first noticed them as we were on the way to the hotel in the taxi and decided I must get a photo. We went for a walk as soon as we had dropped off the small amount of luggage that was actually delivered to us (BA ****-up!) and I took the photos.
Here in Scarborough the lights look very tacky but they were much nicer in Brugge.

Great photos Comet. I have to say that, being used to the “decorations” in the middle of nowhere (i.e. Llandrindod Wells) I feel quite perplexed just looking at the photo’s of the lights. I bet they were awesome in real life 😀 😀 😀
I would like to go abroad at some point but it’s getting the money together that’s the trouble, eh 😀 😀 😀

Thanks Steve. Belgium is massively under-rated,
Absolutely.
For some strange reason, I’ve always got along with (& got FAR less hassle from), the ‘Flems’, rather than the ‘Walloons’, on my countless trips over there (i.e. last time in Manhay/Grandmenil).
A NOTICEABLE difference on my/our part……. (‘Flemish’ – You Rock !!!).

Hoegaarden is nice on a hot day. I remember in Zeebrugge last September the heat was so intense it was almost unbearable. We went into a bar called Old Steamer and I had a big glass of Hoegaarden. It was nice to cool my hands down on the glass and then drink the cold beer while watching the tropical fish in the big tank in the pub.

I’m a Hoegaarden fan myself. Its getting alot more popular in NI with alot more places serving it now!

Is the tower of that church really at that angle, or was the Sloeber kicking in? 🙂
Bruges looks a nice place.
😮 It was taken through the window:o But the strongest beer we had was the Stille Nacht – 12%ABV and very nice. We would have tried the ice skating if it hadn’t been for the beer being so strong:D
Brugge/Bruges is a beautiful place and sightseeing is good fun because you can have horse and carriage tours and boat tours along the canals. There are some tacky tourist shops but some really nice quality shops as well, especially if you like chocolate:diablo:
It’s a place you never tire of visiting – each time we go we find a new favourite restaurant and you can get to everywhere (almost) by train so we have visited loads of places through Belgium. It’s not far from the sea either.

Thanks Steve. Belgium is massively under-rated, it is truly a superb place to visit. We went in September and had hot weather apart from when we went to Eupen when it rained. The beer is sensational and the food is great. We had dinner at a Chinese restaurant on Christmas Day – Cantonese rice table and it was really nice. Then on Boxing Day I had rack of lamb and my Mum had ostrich. The food was all top notch stuff!

That Sloeber beer looks good. Can you get it over here in the u.k ?
It’s very difficult to find over here SOFTLAD, but last year a friend of mine asked at a beer shop in York who had connections with the Beer Ritz warehouse, and they were able to import some. That might be your best bet – ask at a specialised beer shop and they might be able to help you. Ordinary beer shops never seem to sell it.
http://www.beerritz.co.uk/ might be able to help but they are not taking orders until early in 2007 due to huge demand.

Lights with the church in the background.

The Markt on Christmas Eve. It was very quiet.

Stalls at the other market.

The love of my life – the best beer in the world! Sloeber in the limelight with Leffe Vieille Cuvee in the background. Taken in the best pub in Brugge.

Views from our hotel room.
We will be back in Brugge next Christmas 😀 😀

The chip stall. These chips were to die for!

The Christmas beer – Stille Nacht.

View from our hotel window.

A drinks stall at one of the Christmas markets.

The hot drinks stall where we used to buy our drinks. My Mum is just getting her jenever coffee and my hot chocolate.
