AppleMac or PC ?

I have just seen an article on the new Apple iMac with 24″ monitor. It can apparently be given a program that enables MS Windows to be used as well as the MacOSX. Question: As it now has Intel chips, and can use Windows does this mean that it will automatically be able to cope with Vista ? (the Windows replacement)
As I understand a new MacOS to be named Panther is about to be released (about which I know nothing at all) I would appreciate information on it, as I am seriously thinking of going to the AppleMac for the first time in over a quarter of a century’s computing.

Dual core is nice, perhaps even desirable, but not necessary. My PC has an Athlon 3700+ single core CPU which will run Vista with ease. That said, I do have 2GB RAM, a 256MB ATI graphics card and 3 HDD’s (1x250Gb SATA, 1x160Gb SAT and 1x200GB IDE) as well as 1x250GB external.
So I am more than blesssed for specs, esp disk space:D

Will prob upgrade again (sod dual core, quad core’s where it’s at) but not until the middle of next year at the earliest. At least thats what I keep telling myself…..;)

BTW, just got myself a lovley 20″ 4:3 (not widescreen) HP 1600×1200 TFT monitor….:D 😀 😀

Thank you. Being a cautious type of chap I always make sure that I’m well over specified as programmes today are not as tightly written as they once were. The iMac clearly well exceeds the first 3 requirements, but I don’t know about Direct X 9. Will look into it. Cheers.

To make a Vista install realistic:

A dual core CPU
1GB Ram is a minimum, 2 wouldn’t be a bad idea if you intend to keep the computer for several years
A large HDD, again for the same reasons – think 200+ GB
A DX9 compatible graphics card with 128 or 255 MB RAM – remember the new Vista GUI takes advantage of 3D acceleration…

Vista sys requirement:

800Mhz CPU
512 Mb RAM
15GB HDD
DirectX 9 graphics card with 64Mb RAM

Add AT LEAST 50% on to of those figures for anything like decent perfomance…..

Oh, I’ll be brave and try to soldier on with a measly 24″ screen! In fact I think I’ll have to wait until Panther has been reviewed by some journo on his iMac24 using Vista and giving rave reviews.

ive spoken to a friend about it, the programme that allows macs to run Windows is called bootcamp, which allows the operating system to be run from its own partition on the hard drive, both operating systems can be run independantly.

Macs should be able to run Vista, it just depends on the system hardware requirements for Vista.

the next MacOS, called Leopard, will include bootcamp in the system (due first quarter of 2007).

i hope that helps
