Boeing Chase Plane

In this picture of the 737-900 prototype taking off there is a T-33 in the background. I assume it’s a chase plane of some sort? If so, can anyone tell me anything about it?

The T33 chase plane N109X has been around since the days of the XB70, i should imagine it would have very low hours, so why change it
They also have a T38 and an F18 chase plane

Is there any particular reason to have a T-33? One would assume that more modern planes could be found?

You assumed correctly, there is always a chase plane or chase helicopter that follows every inaugural flight
