The largest forum meet…?

I would like to know what people’s opinions are on the possibility of organising a huge UK meeting at some point, as I am sure that there are alot of members on this forum (me included) that would like the opportunity to finally meet other members and actually put names to faces.

Dependent on how many people would be interested, I don’t think it would be suitable for us all to meet at an airport, so I was thinking that we could look into the possibility of hiring out a venue for an evening or something like that…?

As a starting suggestion, my student union venue in High Wycombe allows private hire for 440 people at about £400, which allows use of music system and includes basic refreshments.

If we managed to get say 150 people interested, it would work out at about £3 per head, and another advantage is…cheap drinks! It is usually £2 a pint – for those that are old enough of course! Soft drinks will be avaliable for young ones…

If we wanted live entertainment, it only costs an extra £100-150, dependent on what type of entertainment we decided to have, but at this stage this is all negotiatable.

Please feel free to post any comments/suggestions below, or PM me if you are interested in helping me to plan/organise the event…?

High Wycombe: 40 mins from London by train, I hear, and on the M40. I’m unfamiliar with whatever is on display at a working RAF Station: is there a Bomber Command HQ display of some sort that would be a side attraction?

I believe that High Wycombe is home to RAF Strike Command HQ, but not sure that it is an active air base – there are certainly no aircraft that come over us…but RAF Benson is not far away, near Oxford, so if you wanted you could get some pics of the Puma’s that operate out of there…

Ok, am thinking it is going to have to be day event as people are unlikely to want to have to fork out money for a hotel for the night, so we could probably hire the venue from 10am til 4pm, how’s that sound?

cloud 9, as its your idea, and you’ve nominated a venue with costs and facilities, why not hang out for that for starters and see what happens, provided you aren’t in a hurry? Do you want to suggest a date range?

Well the venue is closed during the summer months because it can only operate when the university is open, and also because of funding – or lack there of. However, I have been told that it can be made avaliable for sometime in June, so I need to get a date that is convievent to as many people as possible…

How’s bout w/c 12th June?

Holty, time enough, I suggest, to move on decisively and with good faith and goodwill. If you mean the new forum, it is
Planetalk .

Yeah, please try and keep posts relevant to the topic, otherwise this thread is going to die an ugly death, and nothing is going to get organised…

I also think its a great idea but I’m all the way here from Australia, in the future I might even go back to VietNam!

interesting idea, high wycombes bloody miles away from me though!!!

Well you could always fly to LHR and then get the underground/train to Wycombe, but some other people have already mentioned this as well…but it was only as a starting suggestion as I am currently living there and also the venue is very good value for what they charge!

If there is a severe objection to High Wycombe, maybe we could choose somewhere in the Midlands, so that it is easy for everyone to get to?

Anyone from that area know of good venues to hire?

Yes, we used to have forum meets but those that met were accused of being a clique.
So they cleared off and formed their own forum.

This place is the poorer for that.
Later.

Ahhhh those were the days, fond memories.

Mind you forum meets happen on a regular basis, if you know where to look or go.

We could have lots of party games, such as :- Spot the GD personality, pin the ink stain on the anorak or a serial/registration swap meet.
