I’ve received confirmation of a payment for my digital camera, it does seem genuine. But has anyone ever used Moneygram? If so, what the hell do I do? I’ve got a reference number, and apparently I have to take it to a Moneygram point and cash it there, not sure though.
I’ve got a screeshot of the email if anyone wants have a look, but please help as soon as possible! Thanks.

hmmm. the fact that there could be legitimate users of Moneygram did seem too good to be true.
Bog standard e-bay scam then – report non paying bidder and get relisted.
Also see 419eater.com for a laugh 🙂 (Hope it’s ok to post a link here).
Miscellaneous scams section forum has some good info about the scams that all eminate from Nigeria.

Definitely too good to be true. Thanks for your email as well, lol. It’s pure class!
Anyway, another question.
If I buy an item off eBay, Pay with Paypal but the seller doesnt send the item and closes the Paypal account, what happens? Apparently, Paypal give you a refund and not the seller…
I wouldn’t be qualified to give you the definitive answer on that question. Go on E-bay, Communities, Answer section and ask the question or search for the answer, all of life is there for those who search 🙂

Thank you very much. Problem sorted! 🙂
Can’t believe I got 200 quid for a camera I bought for 90! 😮
Don’t count your chickens before they are hatched. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Just the mention of Nigeria tells you it is a scam, I guarantee it. If this is an e-bay transaction, you report it as a scam to cshelp@ebay.com and they might investigate it. 🙂

Ok, I am really having problems with this now. I contacted the buyer and he said I need to send the item, provide them with the tracking number and then I will receive my money. (I have not yet been to a Moneygram point)
This looks really suspicious to me, bearing in mind I got an email from the idiot saking me to post the camera to his “sick sister” in Nigeria.
I have compiled a few screenshots without the ref number. I think they look fake.
Could someone please advise me on this matter further please? Thank you.

You have to go to a Moneygram agent – and don’t forgodsake post a screenie of the e-mail or anyone will be able to pick it up!!!
The bit you want is http://www.moneygram.com/servlet/DefaultApplyXSL?xslURL=/Display/temgweb.xsl&URL=/Apps/AgentLocator/AgentSearch.jsp
As a general word of warning, while receiving money by Moneygram should be fine, never deal with anyone that asks for payment in that way. It’s completely untraceable and unrefundable, and in practice it can be picked up from anywhere in the world not just the intended destination. Along with similar Western Union transfers they are by a long way the most popular way for advance fee fraudsters to obtain payment for goods they will never send.
