Before I left for work this morning the news channels were reporting most men had survived, and it literally sent a shiver down my spine just now when I read what had really happened. To all the American members here, my heart goes out to your country right now.

There must ways to make the mining industry even safer.
I think, to be fair, the US record on mine safety isn’t bad.
The apalling figure for the Chinese industry is reproduced from the BBC web site below.
Official figures show that 4,153 people died in mining accidents in China in the first three quarters of this year – a figure 13% lower than last year. The total may be much higher, since many deaths go unreported.
But today, for the relatives, that must have been the cruellest chain of events ever. You can but sympathise.

As people have already said, I can’t imagine the emotion those people affected by this are feeling. To add insult to what is already a very very sad situation, there is a SWAT team in place, in case the relatives emotions spill over into violence – heck in that situation I would be angry….Thoughts go out to those people affected.

Such a tragedy for those families who thought their loved ones would be returned to them safe and well.
I’m with Flags on this – I cannot begin to imagine their grief of this following the news earlier today.

I cannot imagine the emotions they must have experienced!
