Squirrels….now I learned rather too much about one today….there is Rocketeer driving along with Mk 1 & Mk 2 daughters, GF plus son and my doggy when I see a squirrel limping….like the twit I can be….I turn car around and braving the busy roads of Salisbury. finally catch said squirrel holding him around the rather soft and cuddly tummy….Unfortunately the not so cuddly teeth came out and munched three times on my index finger….all I can say is ouch! Each bite went through to the bone and scraped it….popped the fella in the boot. The other contents of the car were all going argh as I caught the fella (well girl…no lady!) until they saw my heavily bleeding finger.
So first lesson of year, if (after considering whether YOU think they are vermin or not) you decide to rescue a Squirrel with a broken leg, catch it by the tail, preferably with armoured gloves. I personally am pleased that she will be back on all paws in a few weeks, though wish she had not bitten me so well! I shall take more precautions next time. Some may think that I was silly saving any wildlife, don’t care, I am countryfolk not a towny….the worst nastiest animals in the world are us, the so called humane humans.
Sorry for thread drift…back to those cuddly dolphins! Just remember though, a dolphin did not invent A bombs, create the ozone layer and do their best to kill not only themselves but every other living thing on this beautiful planet we live on.
One last thought, if shrews are half as ferocious as squirrels then the Supermarine Shrew was a good name for the Spitfire!! Happy New Year!
