PC help please

Hi all

I put some new memory in my pc, it was exactly the same type & make as my orignal chip, this new chip was extra as opposed to replacement, anyway, my pc booted ok then I started to get some memory interupt messages, I shut the pc down, took out the new memory, tried to reboot the PC and it said a file was corrupt and could not boot, my system is one that comes with a recovery system in built which you can access at start up, my problem is that I have some very important pictures on the HDD of my 2nd daughter’s birth that I need to take off, I cannot just reformat, I need these pictures at all cost.
Anyway my system also has a system restore function which I ran, but afterwards it still will not boot, not even into safe mode, basically it’s shagged, but I absolutely have to get these pics off the HDD, is there any way at all that I can retrieve them? can I do a system reformat then get the off? is there a program I can run to get them off or can I slave this HDD in another PC to retrieve them

Thanks in advance

Dean

Deano777 if you still have a problem I got this really good PC repair man, he wouldn’t drive to yours (he might) but he oftenly fixes PC over the phone – he’s really good, ive discommoded my PC so many times and he’s told me how to fix it over the phone every time, ill give you the number when i find it, if you need it,

Cheers guys, I have win XP Pro Lance, I have not got a system disk to launch it, I can download one from bootdisk.com but need a floppy drive which I haven’t got on this laptop, I will have to do it over the father in-law’s, I am going away tomorrow for my ATPL exams for 5 days so I will tackle it when I get back on Thursday, don’t think I am being rude by not replying, I just won’t be here 😉

I had a similar problem recently and the fault lay with the new memory I’d bought. It was replaced for another stick and worked just fine.

You don’t say which operating system you’re using…. have you tried booting into DOS or starting Windows from a system disk?

Failing that, Sean’s suggestion would be your best bet.

You’ll probably have to slave the hard drive to another PC. If you run a system reformat you’re going to overwrite everything and the files won’t be accessible anymore.
