I decided to have a wander across town to City Airport Manchester (or Barton Aerodrome, as everyone else but the owners refers to it) earlier today.
I took some pictures while I was there…..

Grey Area….hope you dont mind me adding this one to your thread 🙂
No pics of the control tower? It’s the oldest working control tower in the world!
I like Barton, often head over there after a day at Ringway 😀

Nice one mate, I was last there about 30 years back, is the airshows still on? Have any biz jets ever landed there as of yet??

Great shots, not seen pics from Barton in ages. I laughed at G-GOTH. :p
It’s Robert Smith’s aircraft

….the shooting opportunities are fairly good I’m assuming from these shots?
Indeed they are.
Pictures 3, 4 and 6 were shot from the first-floor balcony that surrounds the tower, and the rest were shot from landside over a reasonably low wooden fence.
The direction of the sun is generally favourable, although shots from the tower of aircraft parked on the apron outside the hangars are backlit in the morning and early afternoon.
Bus numbers 67 and 100 from Shudehill Exchange (near Victoria rail station) stop right outside the entrance to the airfield.
Thanks for the kind comments, chaps. 🙂

Nice images, Lance, and nice to see a few from somewhere different. I wouldn’t mind wandering over there sometime actually, the shooting opportunities are fairly good I’m assuming from these shots?

Sadly they lost a pilot in a 2/3rds scale P-51 during another airshow there as well.

was this the airfield where RR299 crashed?
Smashing pics mate 🙂
Yes it is. A most unhappy event for me as the Mosquito is one of my favourite British warbirds. I think a lot of us miss her presence on the airshow circuit.
