Harveys Best Bitter – Brewed locally in Lewes, from one of the few privately owned (i.e. not swallowed up by one of the large chains) full size breweries left here in the South East I think.
Not sure how far this travels around the UK as a draught beer, but they also sell it bottled as “Blue Label”, so I guess it should be available in most places.
Seconded, a great pint, but I have to go to Godstone for it, otherwise Fullers London Pride.
Septic.

Wouldn`t pay a penny for it but if this was in the office 😉

Indeed not…. I see you more as a fruity rich red – a Shiraz or a Cabernet Sauvignon.
A good vintage, naturally. 😉

Who brews that one, then?
Not I Sir 😉 Anna 😉 😀

#1 Labatt Blue of Canada
#2 Baltika of Russia
#3 Godfather Beer of India
Although I am essentially a non-beer drinker. A White Russian or Vodka & Red Bull usually does it for me.

The worst beer i had? Definately in Minsk. Probably called Lukashenkskoye or something, and it was absolutely foul. One of my most unpleasant experiences.

Just bumped into the landlord of The Red Lion in the village, originally a tied pub for Ridleys. Greene King are to continue making Old Bob at Bury, however Frank now has to sell exclusively Greene King beers which he isn’t happy about, he would prefer to ship in Nethergate from Clare but isn’t allowed to, could be another good landlord on his way then.

The Derby Tup’s still going, although IMHO it’s not as good as it used to be. Still got the Whitbread “Hall of Shame” family tree on the wall too.

Try Morrisons, all bottled beers £1.59 a pint (or metric pint) or any 4 for a fiver.
Had Pelforth Brun years ago in France when I was trying to find something other than lager. When I started I thought I’d found what I was looking for but by the time I got fairly well down the first glass it was getting a bit sickly. Found 1664 and thought it was pretty good.
Until my local had some a year or two back I’d never seen a pint of Ridley’s you could see through. Tasted OK but looked awful.
Unfortunately Morrisons are as rare as hens teeth in this area, the nearest one for miles is at Witham.
There is a story in yesterdays Dunmow Broadcast saying that Ridleys stopped brewing in August and the equipment is already being stripped out of the building. A group of protesters did a funeral march to the building at the weekend and are saying, that as a rare example of a Victorian tower brewery, it should be Listed by Uttlesford District Council complete with equipment, however knowing the speed that their conservation people move, it will be a housing estate before anything is done.
Incidentally, noticing you live in Chesterfield, is the ‘Derby Tup’ still going. When my pals lived in Sheffield up to a few years ago, we used to make regular visits. I was particularly interested in a ‘family tree’ on the wall, showing the number of breweries destroyed by Whitbreads.
A few years ago I went into a Devenish pub in Corfe Castle, the Devenish sign was still up and I didn’t realise they had been taken over and shut down by Whitbread, seeing the usual Whitbread fare in the pub I walked out, unfortunately as most pubs in that area were originally run by Devenish, I had a dry holiday.
The original brewery in Weymouth is now a bloody craft market.

You’d have to pay me a substantial amount of money to drink any smooth “beer”. Absolute cr@p.
Kimberley amazed me when they introduced Classic – 4.8% ABV, zero taste. I didn’t know it could be done at that strength.
I am impressed to find a discerning beer fan, lets call it a truce, you’d better hurry over to the Red Lion in Finchingfield so we can finish off the last of the Ridleys.
Anyone tried Pelforth Brun, Belgian I think.
Went to the Munich area last year and was treated to some magnificent beers unobtainable at Tesco’s etc of course, found a supermarket chain in Cumbria/North Lancs earlier this year, whose name escapes me, but they had a fantastic selection of beers, best I’ve seen, cheap too.

The worst beer in the world has got to be a Scottish beer, i think it was called McAndrews, i could resurface my tennis court with the stuff
