Australian Chainsaw Massacre

WANTED: Chainsaw operators. Must have sense of rhythm and good appreciation for personal space.
Welcome to the bizarre world of the chainsaw tribute band Pannikin.
As you can imagine, plenty of space on stage is a must as the chainsaw operators fire up their machines in the name of art.
Don’t get the wrong idea though — this is serious business performed alongside an eight-piece chamber orchestra and per formed in the Arts Centre’s George Fairfax Theatre.
Pannikin creator Jon Rose tells us the event celebrates grassroots music in rural Australia and follows in the footsteps of the West Australian Chainsaw Orchestra.
Guest musicians also appear on stage playing everything from corrugated iron to dot matrix printers.
The good news is that Pannikin has put the call out for four professional chainsaw operators to join the band for three performances next month as part of the Melbourne International Arts Festival.
Organisers tell us the chainsaw parts are relatively small so they’re not looking for the next Beethoven — just someone with a sense of fun.
Professional chainsaw operators can call Kate on (02) 9560 9257.
