Jetskis

Yet another fatal accident involving a jetski !! What are your thoughts on them?? 🙁

I tend to think that most of the riders of these powerful machines lack skill and also respect for fellow riders. 🙁 Anna

I really feel sorry for the boy who killed his girlfriend in one of those accidents. I know when there is a love relationship at our age, you care more about your partner than anything.
Personally I hate Jetskis….blo0dy hate ’em

Used properly they are probably a lot of fun.
Unfortunately by their very design they are a real noise annoyance to the majority and when driven by selfish idiots they are a positive danger to other water users.
Sadly 99% of the owners round our way are in this category 😡

At our local bathing beach there is a line of yellow buoys 400yds out, running parallel to the shoreline. These give warning of the speed limit of 8 knots inside these markers, they might just a well not be there when the “Romford Navy” takes to the water.
The only pleasure I derive as I sit in my beach hut trying to enjoy my shattered peace and tranquility is when one of these goons falls off ! :diablo:

I have two jet skis that are mostly used by my kids and grandkids who behave quite responsibly on them or else they know i’d ban them from using them altogether

Depends in my opinion. Unfortunately the irresponsible people put a bad name on the responsible people. But I believe its a minority who dont behave properly on them, so not too much should / can be done about it.

Most of them are complete idiots, and cause problems for the Coastguard, RNLI and any other local independent lifeboat services. I know several people in these and they all agree something has to be done about the Jetski problem, some sort of license they have to pass before owning one would be best. The problem with water vehicles is that you don’t have to have a license so you can pratt about on them, whereas with an aircraft or motor vehicle you do.

People tend to buy them , jump on them and scream around annoying everybody . We have Wave Runners – the kids have one between them and I have my own one . I can guarantee that every time we take them to Loch Earn or Loch Lomond there are kids out on rather large jetskis with NO Life Preservers , no wetsuit – absolutlely NO safety gear .
I’ts about time there was a basic test you would have to pass before being granted a Jetski Licence , and it shoud be mandatory that some form of head protection should be worn , a wetsuit and a head protector too should be a legal requirment

They look good fun. I can’t swim, so I’m not as brave on them as I wish I could be.

I don’t know what you mean about them lacking respect for fellow riders? I presume they each just get on and do thier thing?

Just like most other similar hobbies there are risks….
