Yeah but the Suez-crisis was still the last act of european colonialism. France and the UK thought the US would allow the intervention silently, but instead they supported the USSR. The USSR even wanted to fire missiles at London and Paris and asked the US’s support, but that ofcourse, didn’t go ahead :).
But untill the six-day war Israel’s closest ally was most certainly France! They had one common enemy, namely Egypt, because Egypt also supported the rebels in Algeria.

Relationship between the US and the UK back then weren’t really that good because Eisenhower humiliated the British and the French in the UN.
I always though the U.S. (and the U.K.) humiliated the French by saving their rear-ends in WWII. :diablo: :diablo: :diablo: :diablo:

Well guess that had to do with the suez-crisis. Relationship between the US and the UK back then weren’t really that good because Eisenhower humiliated the British and the French in the UN.

So much for the so called ‘special relationship’ then 😮
Something that is genuinely felt by those who stood side by side in combat and something that has also been exploited by politicians on both sides of the Atlantic ever since.

20 tonnes of heavy water? 20 tonnes of anything is heavy. If it was 20 tonnes of light water it would only have been 10 tonnes and then they wouldn’t have paid. Sell water to a desert seems like a grand opportunity to me. Very shrewd.
actually, volume wise it’s not all that much…less than 3x3x3 meters.

Now the list with all the bad things done under the Stars and Stripes is significantly shorter 😉
And UK’s list a bit longer!!!! 😉
From the BBC website:
“Britain secretly sold Israel a key ingredient for its nuclear programme in 1958, according to official documents obtained by BBC News.
Papers in the British National Archives show a deal was done to export 20 tonnes of heavy water for about £1.5m.
This was vital for plutonium production at the top-secret Dimona nuclear reactor in Israel’s Negev desert.
No “peaceful use only” condition was placed on its use. Officials said imposing one would be “over zealous”.
Ministers in Harold Macmillan’s government were unaware of the deal. It was also kept secret from the US. “

and the timing….this isn’t going to be good for the British.
Why? because of the terror?
Don’t worry, the exteremists will always found perfectly good reasons to hate the western world, with or without helping Israel

Does Israel still deny the existance of nukes in their arsenal?
Israel never denyed or confirmed the existance of nuclear weapons in its arsenal. It’s a status called “Vagueness”. Enough to make sure that everybody and his brother will understand that we have a nuclear capability, and without having the troubles of making it official.

Don’t worry, blame the French 😉
(Which of course were the ones who gave us most of our nuclear techology, nothing really to do with the US)
