Hi All,
Just read that the US has moved to #6 on the FIFA ranking the highest we have ever been.
But what is really suprising is who we are ahead of Frane and England to name just two. So are we that good or has Internation play become so water down.
Please try to be nice when responding 😀
Cheers

So here is a question why not expain the Champions to include all Leagues Champs, MSL, Mexico, Central America ect ect I would think the Pay Off $$$$ would be greater and beside then we would really see who is the Champion among Champions could do it in a round robin type thing.
Wow! Don’t go letting anyone from UEFA see that idea……. :diablo:
Seriously, though, what you’re proposing would in effect be a world club championship and there are powerful “political” objections within the world game to the idea.
Don’t forget- all of the world’s best players ply their trade in Europe, irrespective of their nation of origin – that’s where the big money is at present. This may change in the future (and in all probability will) but for now it’s a fact of life.
To be frank, UEFA make so much money from the Champions’ League in its present form that there’s no way on earth they’d allow any more noses anywhere near the trough.

The USA team these days is very useful, however the FIFA rankings should always be taken with a whole mine of salt. The US national team plays an awful lot more games than European sides, and often against pretty lightweight opposition. In my opinion, I’d rank them as a top 25 side, but certainly there not the sixth best national team in the world…

I agree – the US soccer team has come a long way in a (comparatively) short time, and they can provide serious opposition for any other nation these days.
Most major European clubs are already facing long seasons and crowded fixture lists as it is, crazymainer, so I think that matches against MSL sides will be few and far between and restricted to pre-season and winter break friendlies for some years to come.
Given that the Champions’ League is a European club competition I don’t think there’s any chance at all of MSL teams taking part, to be honest.
Anyway – there’s a US-owned club in the Champions’ League this season, so that’ll just have to do for now. 😀

Close, crazymainer. Tell you what, why not let FIFA explain it? 😀
What could be simpler, eh? :diablo:
Thanks Grey Area,
So do you really think we have a chance I know we have come a long way but I don’t see any of the European teams setting up matchs with us, yea we get ManU and Chelse to come over and play are National and MSL teams but that can’t be compair to the World Cup type teams.
Also speaking of are MSL Teams I would like to see them play in the Champions League just to really see how far we have come 😀

Since I really don’t understand the ranking system for International could you explain it in its most simple form.
Am I to understand its basically goes on how many matchs said teams plays over a certain time period and the level of comp counts also I think.

Anyway its nice to se that we are no longer the stepping stone of International Football tho I say that with caution untill we make it to the Sweet 16 of the World Cup we will always be the isn’t that nice look the Yanks have coem along way but you know they just can’t beat those top Notch teams.

By Jove!
He’s right, you know.
Mind you, the USA has just lifted the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
When did England or France last play a competitive match?
It’s important to understand how these rankings work before one goes too far overboard. 😉
Yes, indeed. They are based on the most recent competitive results and merits. You might find Germany quite far down that list just now, given they are hosts of the next World Cup and therefore have little requirement for competitive matches.

Does seem kinda strange doesn’t it, I know the USA team have come on leaps & bounds but #6? if you think of all the European teams who do well at the world cup etc it seems strange, crazymainer have you got a link to the rankings?
