As the Airbus A320 thread went down so well i thought i’d start this weeks,with what i think(my opinion) is the best looking Airliner of the modern era. Also so there’s no confusion post as many pics as you want and links to external sites are Welcome as long as it’s an MD-11.
Each 1 taken from a different spotting location at different times of the day to show the difference a few hours make or by moving from 1 spot to another.
All UPS for 2 reasons:-
1) this is the only MD-11 operator here
2) UPS has 1 of the best liveries esp on MD-11s

And would have had Rolls-Royce RB211’s too, they were the launch customer for the type with that engine, but it obviously never got that far 😡

Don’t get many of these at my local, this Lufthansa Cargo flight was delayed so I was lucky enough to see it in daylight ( if that’s what you call it at MCR )

Stupid question probably but… is the MD-11 just a rebranding of the DC-10 [love em!] since McD got taken over by Boeing or is it a significantly different Aircraft?:confused:
It is based on the DC-10, but featuring a stretched fuselage, increased wingspan with winglets, refined airfoils on the wing and tailplane, new engines and increased use of composite materials. It also features an all-digital glass cockpit that decreases the flight deck crew from the three required on the DC-10 to two by eliminating the necessity for a flight engineer.
