Hello guys and gals 🙂
Can anyone explain to me please in plain, simple English, what ‘Crystal Report Writer’ is please, and what it does/is used for (obviously for reports, but further elaboration would be excellent :))
(Yes, I have googled, but I’d like a simple version of it please :diablo: )
Many thanks in advance 🙂

Thanks for that Anna…I think… :p 😀
Thank you everyone else for your input, it’s much appreciated 🙂 My reason for asking is that my other half has applied for a job in which knowledge of Crystal Report Writer was a desirable, but not essential attribute (and he hasn’t encountered it before). As he fits the rest of the requirements for the job perfectly, we at least thought we could find out a bit about it, so if questioned about it he can be honest and say he hasn’t worked with it, but he understands basically what it is and what is does, rather than sitting there blankly and going “sorry, no, what is it?” 🙂

Its all about clarity Becka,” Facts” and getting them right!! As with the old MOD’s Forum 😉 😉 Anna 😀 😀 :diablo: :diablo:

Would rather be an oracle with C
Isn’t that a small Welsh boat?

No, thanks. I’m not of that pascalian side. Nor do i like COBOLds. Would rather be an oracle with C flavour, a very Sharp one, actually 😀

Would that be a Delphic Oracle, Frank? 😉

Yep, and Query is free.
And… you forgot, not that Access toy… gimme a real DB. Who said Oracle ? 😀

In a nutshell it allows you to select data from one or more relational databases, perform calculations and statistical process on it and then present it in whatever way you like.
Does that help?
And I prefer MS Query……….. 😀

Crystal Report Writer? Is that someone who reviews expensive champagne for magazines?
Nope. You are getting confused with Cristal Report Writer 😎

Just discussed this with a mate of mine whose good lady has something to do with these things, her comment was (as Moggy says) this software is capable of pulling together information from lots of different databases and platforms, it produces very professional results and if you are anything above absolute beginner level in Excel it’s “easy to get to grips with”.
Easy for her to say, I lost the plot after D/Base IV

From a quick Google I’d guess it is a simplified front end program to enable you to extract information from an existing database without being conversant with that database.
So if I had written an Access database logging all the information relevant to my drinking – dates, pubs, times, length of time each drink lasted, who I was with etc, you could use Crystal to find how many of the pints of Adnams I had ever drunk lasted less than 5 minutes and what proportion of the total that represented, plus the deviation (more handcuffs) from the mean despite the fact you have never seen Access in your life.
But I could be wrong.
And I haven’t created the database anyway.
