I was asked a question the other night about skype voice over ip, apart from knowing a little bit about how voip works I don’t know much about this particular software.
Any good ? Too good to be true :diablo: Worth a dabble ? Sh1te ? 😀
Anyone got any experience of using it ?

I’ve no idea Frank.
He does say that when he speaks to people in France, and IIRC, on the UK south coast there’s no problem but here I only seem to get about 30% of the speech.

Is your relation using a microphone and speakers, or a headset ? I’d blame it on that equipment. Because in my case, apart of a slightly lower level, you can’t distinguish it from a landline (the microphone even picks up sounds that wouldn’t be heard on a landline.. )

A relation calls me from France on it periodically. Appalling sound quality, we usually have to give up and revert to a landline.

Excellent, and with a VoIP compatible phone, Skype really gets interesting. I use it daily 😀
You wouldn’t believe all you can spare on international calls 😉

I’ve used Skype a little, no issues with my end but people I’ve called to on their landlines say the sound quality is poor.

This was discussed on the business news on Radio 2 tonight by Johnnie Walker And Martin Shankleman (spelling?). They were discussing another company whose name escapes me at present and think it is the future of telecomms. I work for a Government department and it is certainly on the agenda for the future apparently.
