Spend the day between 08:00 and 15:00 when the sun got in an annoying position. Main aim of the trip was to see a lot of RNLAF movements. They only fly during office hours (operational exceptions excluded obviously) so I do not normally get a chance to see them.
Unforunately the RNLAF had only a few movements. One F50 arrival and one C130 departure. Next to that the RNLAF had two charters. One Blue Line A310 and the usual twice weekly IL-76.

A number of IL-76’s have been re-engined and are now EU noise compliant. Great pics, aren’t the Netherlands Air Force KC-10’s also based at Eindhoven ? We had them passing through GLA regularly a couple of years ago, bringing troops in for NATO exercises.
Speaking of the Netherlands, I’m passing through Schipol this Tuesday, enroute to Budapest for a week’s work. KLM then Malev and vice versa on Saturday. Should be fun !
The entire fixed-wing transport fleet is based at Eindhoven. There are two F50s, two C-130s (a third one to be delivered shortly), a Gulfstream and two KDC-10s with a regular DC-10 joining in a few months(?). It is fair to say that the Luchtmacht “owns” a Aviacon Zitrotrans Il-76 since they operate two flights a week to Afghanistan and back. Arrival monday around 12:30 departure next day, and arrival friday 08:00ish and departure same day 19:00. As you may know the four F60s have been stored at Woensdrecht awaiting a buyer.
Other military operaters at Eindhoven include NATO who routinely do practise runs at Eindhoven with Geilenkirchen based AWACS and tankers.
Just a few KMs northwest of the airport on the heath is one of the helicopter low-flying areas. You are free to enter it, even when there are flight operations, but it is at your own risk. If you go there, beware for jeeps, tanks and APCs driving around.
So all in all Eindhoven can be very interesting. The operations on the heath are not really visible from the airport so either you need to go there hoping for the best, or take a scanner with you. I have not been there myself yet, but the pictures I have seen are spectacular.

No, just a F50. The F60s are all parked at Woensdrecht awaiting a buyer. The RNLAF retired them all. They had the choise between the four F60s or an additional two C-130s, they choose the hercs. Quite a waste if you ask me, cause the F60s can be used quite effecticaly to replace the Orions we retired without replacement (not counting two “new” Coastguard operated Do-228s).
Though Ilyushin IL-76 are banned from europe are they banned in russia europe?
No, just EU-Europe.

Only exception probably the Tu-154. The Tu-154 is good looking in the traditional sense. 😀
Indeed it is:

Yea i saw an interesting TV documentary recently on early russian planes, including an Antonov Ant1 with long slender wings and an early Concorde clone called the Concordski. It seems they got there first,or rather they would have if the soviet rulers had allowed the plans to go ahead!

Thanks! It looks quite a big plane! Russian made? (I’m still learning about planes)
It is rather big and yes it is Russian. As a rule of thumb: a jet-powered plane that is ill-proportioned enough to actually look pretty, it’s Russian. Only exception probably the Tu-154. The Tu-154 is good looking in the traditional sense. 😀

Aviacon Zitotrans Ilyushin IL-76 RA-76386. They fly into Eindhoven twice a week on military charters for the RNLAF. Eindhoven is one of the few places in Europe where you can still see them on a (semi-)scheduled basis. They are banned from Europe due to noise, but since these fly for the military they get away with it.
