A friend in the training department needed to take some pictures of the simulator being used so he rounded up my training partner and I to fly the box for him. It isn’t very often that you get the opportunity to screw around in a simulator as most training sessions leave little free time for such activities.
1. My training partner is flying a dual engine flame out into EWR. Notice there are plenty of associated warning and caution messages on the EICAS. He’s also using the pedistal trim since in an electrical emergency (no generators) the yoke pitch trim doesn’t work. I find it funny that we are both leaning to match the visuals. Once established in a turn it becomes a 1G manuver so the simulator is actually level here. Just goes to show how much visual cues play in situational awareness.
2. I’ve started a loop and the red cheverons are noticable on the attitude indicator.
3. After the loop I attempt to roll the jet. The second attempt went a lot better. 🙂
4. In this rolling picture the NYC skyline is visible. I don’t know why they didn’t want to use this picture for their publications. 😀
5. Still leaning.
6. One with a flash. It appears we were actually straight and level here, how odd. 😉
7. Reset on the runway. I believe was runway 15L in IAH for what it’s worth.
8. I actually look like I know what I’m doing here. When in doubt, just start pushing buttons.
9. A nice view of the Statue of Liberty. I have another picture where we are flying over her inverted but it didn’t turn out. Too bad. 🙂
There you go. That was rather entertaining for the 15-20 minutes we were in there.

Having spent years as a cyclist, I used to do the exact same thing going round corners in my car when I first became a driver. 😀

Great stuff, way better than any PSX game or MS Flight Sim I’ll bet! 😉

When you were inverted, was there a possibility of crashing into Lady Liberty?
I didn’t hit it but I don’t believe that the sim. recognizes collisions with those objects.
