Protecting your PC – Which Software?

Forumites, need advice please on software which you trust to protect your PC.

I run Zone Alarm basic, AVG, and Ad-Aware which are all good, but I now want the best – and I’m willing to pay in order to buy and to update.

Two obvious contenders are Norton and Macafee, but I know some of you PC gurus have your own favourites, often backed up by insider knowledge.
