Airbus plant @ broughton

Chaps,

Have been doing a lot of work at our Chester site and will continue to do so over the coming months, it’s a five minute drive to the Airbus plant. Anybody got info if I can get some vantage points near by, as the other day was having my M&S lunch (it does have its perks working there) and saw the A300ST whistling over the roof and was wondering weather to take the camera with me. Also what days does this mother come in?

Rgds

Best thing to do, go on the A55, look for the “Broughton Shopping Centre” signs, turn off the A55, go towards the centre, where you should get to a roundabout, either park in the shopping centre, or turn left at the roundabout and the road goes under the appraoch path. You can see um quite well there!

May I suggest the flying clubs? Asking them if they mind, from memory they have tables outside the schools buildings. They have a reasonable view thought you might need a fairly long lens if your looking for photos.

I gather that the number of Beluga movements through Chester is about to increase quite a bit – Rolls Royce will shortly start sending their engines and other engine accessories to Toulouse on Belugas from Chester, rather than using road and/or air from EMA.

I saw F-GTSC in today and I think it was SE or SF that was due in later – only took a passing glimpse at the AMOS!

Had my first visit there today, and was thoroughly surprised – a few biz jet movements and the odd mil through, speaking with the gents in the tower it sounded like they have a fair share of variety routing through for BAe/Airbus.

Whilst staying at a local caravan site on hols in Hawarden last year, I called to the security gate at the main entrance and asked politely about movements. The guy in the booth kindly gave me the frequencies (which I already had anyway) for my scanner, and the next scheduled arrivals and departures of the Belugas. Going to the crash gates at the end of the runway allowed some awesome video (particularly when the Beluga was powering up to take off again – the whole gate shook with the jet efflux, and the camcorder shook like mad while shooting through the gate). Just don’t park in front of the gate – local plod WILL move you on. Good range of movements on most days including Global Express, most biz jet types and the odd larger jet too e.g. BBJs.
