Found out this week I’ve got a job I went for at Lakenheath – been a long wait but should be well worth it. 😀 😀 😀
Anyway, I’m going to have to move and I need somewhere to rent about 20 to 30 mins this side of the airbase (Western side) to make coming back over this way to get my kids every other weekend a shorter trip for them (an hour and a half as opposed to 2 hours).
Any ideas as to where and an idea of how much I can expect to be shelling out per month.
Thanks all in advance

Cheers. I believe I’m the only Brit in the office so they’ll have to like it… The fact I’ve got it has finally sunk in so I’m really looking forward to it now.

People in Southwold can afford better weather, apparently! 😀 😀

Is the weather different there to the way it is in Wymondham today then????

Think it’s time for a forum Adnams meet up then…..
Southwold’s especially nice at this time of year! 😀

Will you be working on base?
If so it’s probably worth talking to Base Housing who keep the list of all approved available properties for rent in the area

Another problem is that the Air Force pay the rents and, being visiting forces, the tenant is then exempt from Council Tax, which would add another chunk of money each month for the poor UK renter.
Tell me about it…
And then I have to pay for my kids (I don’t mind too much as I have to and I love ’em to bits but the ex-wife left me and living off the state and is able to have a life unlike me!!! 😡 )

Cheers for info Moggy… Alas probably not suitable for me and my two…
Will take you up on the drink though once I’m settled over there and in post.. 😎

Anyway, we are North, not West of..
Good luck, you are moving closer to Adnams territory!

Single bed sized. We get Base Housing to put it as a single person let. That room then fills up with desks and computers for their studies.

Cheers Moggy for the info – how much of a bit is the bit room?

We rent-out a small cottage about 10 minutes from Lakenheath.
Needless to say we let it to the ‘visiting forces’
One and a bit bedrooms, downstairs bathroom, One recep, one kitchen, bit of garden and off-road parking.
£440 a month at the moment, but the current tenant is leaving in a couple of weeks so probably £450 from then.
The market is badly skewed by the base.

Talk to me once you’ve moved, we could do some checking out of the local pubs 😉

Cheers Steve…
Have PM’d you.
No webbed feet here but I seem to recall that long distant relatives came from Suffolk… Perhaps the webbed feet have been genetically evolved out…

Don’t know for certain, but try NOT to aim for Cambridge itself as you’ll find rents there are astronomical. Aim for a village or town to the north of the A14, I’d suggest Fordham / Soham / maybe as far west as Ely, but be aware that you’re then getting into inbred country, and they’ll only let you in if your toes are webbed and your sister is also your mother.
My local papers (St Ives) might cover rental properties out that way, I’ll check them tonight. PM me your address if you want me to post them on to you.
