The Serco school at Teesside is indeed world-renowned. Students get sent here from airports big and small around the world to top up their skills in firefighting, rescuing, observation skills, and testing new equipment out. The school has an edge because it’s one of the few allowed to burn Kerosene (thus more realistic).

We also get people coming to Belfast City to see our Gas Aircraft mockup thingy the Fire Service here use at BHD.

The Fire Training School is one of the best in the world, not too long ago (about a month) we had a Netherlands AF drop Dutch (military?) Firemen (I guess) off on a Monday, and then another came back for them on Wednesday 🙂

It’s being used fore fire training but it’s not being burnt, that’s a bit of a “paradox”

And I suppose not all stricken aircraft actually catch fire, so there’s a fair degree of training to be done for that scenario too I guess ?

Steve, what they do is place fire trays around the outside of the structure, and ignite that instead of burning the aircraft itself, doing this means the airframe will last longer. 😀

That’s very interesting, i didn’t know that!!!!!

Now wouldn’t it be nice to put them wings on ZK, then we can all dream of her flying again?

Any parts still going spare? 😉

A registration or construction plate would fit perfectly on my wall!

Correct there Matt,ZR went last week(I have the radome) ,i have been told that the fire service will not burn any more of the airframes.Ref ZS i have robbed quite a bit of it including seat covers and what was left in the flightdeck. All parts removed will be used on the restoration of G-AWZK . 😀

I was the author of the article in Airliner World November 2004 issue on the fire dump at Teesside.

I can report that the burnt wreck Trident 3B G-AWZR has now been removed from the site.

I certainly hope AWZS isn’t getting burnt yet – it’s possibly the most complete on site, with most interior fittings intact. I know it’s been used for a lot of TV work in the past, so hopefully this is just a chance to move it off the mud.
