Fitness advice, what am I doing wrong?

I have recently been tempted to start taking steroids as despite a regular work out routine my body still looks sh**!!! I have been going to the gym now for 3 months for 4 days per wk on average and despite being able to lift weights, run, row and swim with the best of ’em my body has changed very little. My friend is the same size as me but despite being on the same fitness level as me I can see him becoming better shaped. Any ideas, does anyone know a great fitness routine or should I go with the steroids which I have been warned about taking.

If it’s any help I have almost completed the 30 years of painstaking research towards my latest book to be entitled the “Beer, Bread and Potatoes Diet”, all I have to do now is discover how to make myself nine inches taller in a month and I will have the perfect physique. 😀

Seriously though whatever you are trying to achieve DO NOT try and take any shortcuts, most dont work, nearly all hold risks and the damage can sometimes be in places where you would rather not want damage to be if you get what I mean.
Ask yourself what you are actually trying to do and why.
We can only put into good order what nature gave us in the first place, by the same token therefore you cannot radically alter it ‘naturally’.

Looks like you all want a Arnie-Sly-JC Van Damme body. That’s not my goal, in fact, I would hate to be like them. Fitness is one of the few sports I consider to be brainless. Go jogging, swimming, cycling or any other activity, but simply going to a club twice a week to boast about abdoms and other stuff, yuck. Weight lifting itself is OK, but not the “amature fitness”.

Hey, what ‘attitude’? I like hard work, I was just saying it would be nice to see the rewards a little quicker, thats all!
Airbus, I’m 21, 5ft 11 height and 12stone weight……wait a minute this isn’t a dating agency. I have noticed my strenght improving and you are all right about the advice thing, actually got quite a shock when I started talking to a club member, asking him about the correct positioning of the body during a certain excercise. Found out this 19yr old chap is going to be representing Britain fairly soon as an ammature weight lifter!

One other thing along with some other advice is that take into consideration your age. I dont know how old you are, but if you are in the under 20 year old range your full capabilities have not developed. I am fifteen right now and have been going to the gym 3-5 times a week for around 4 months, and I know how you feel to a certain extent. Some advice is to take in all information and advice from everyone. Always keep and open ear and vary you workout with new or modified things. Simply changing you hand position on some resistance machines can change what parts of the muscle is being worked out (like the back/lats). Diet is a huge part as well, a simple rule can be carbs 4+ hours before-hand and protein after your workout. Watch everything you eat and drink. The cool part is the more you work out, the more oportunity for refueling yourself with big healthful meals. And remember its the actual workout and activity that is truly fun, not the results. I come home from the gym tired and sore, but I still feel the need to head right back and start again. And as if you did not see it before, do not use steroids. All they do is give the false impression of strength. Your muscles may grow, but your body is collapsing on the inside. Not to mention the juice causes acne, ED, and full list of other things. Another thing, avoid creatin (not sure on spelling). It has many negative effects. It is made for body-builders who only want the biggest mucles they can get. To put it roughly, it fills you muscles with water. If used incorrectly, like for example a runner uses it, it causes massive unwanted weight gain. If your going to do anything with supplements, only consider protein shakes or bars. It is much better, IMO, to build muscle and endurence naturally. I hope this helped a bit, please do not hesitate to ask questions to real proffesionals, my knowledge is not sufficient to be counted a expert opinion.

Take care- Matt M.

I go jogging 3 times a week 8-10 km. I’m in a good shape. Personally I consider those fitness-freaks as complete brainless idiots. I do sports, not to have a perfect body, but to keep a good physical and psychological balance. Taking steroids, it’s the worst thing one can do. Not is it only bad for your health, it gives you a wrong feeling. To be honest, I’m a bit vain myself, but one should suffer a bit before getting a “perfect” body.

Genetics plays a part in this as well. You just might not be “able” to naturally get built the way you want to. Either way, steroids certainly aren’t the way to go I think.

Sean has a good point 😉 Anna 🙂 😉 🙂

what ever you do, DON’T take steroids, they’ll wreck your health and personality,( i have seen this happen) try using drinks that increase your body/muscle fats and work out as you are doing,
good luck.

You would be absolutely and completely creazy to start steriods!!!! It will surely damage your health while you are trying to get in better shape, would be counter productive wouldn’t you say! Just don’t do it, just ask some professionals at your gym.
