A question,

Hi,

Ive taken a brief stroll over from Historic to ask you fine people two questions, they are probably extremely obvious but im oblivious so its over to you…..

Question 1: Im flying Heathrow-Schiphol-JFK in May. Would I be right in saying the route is served by B737 and then by a B777 from Amsterdam to NY?

Question 2: This is the first time on a flight Ill have to make a change over, heres the question, do you have to check out and then back in again at amsterdam and also, is your luggage automatically sent on or do you collect and then check in again?

thanks in advance.

Assuming no 777 goes tech, the JFK route is 777 only.

But prior to that, it was the MD11, right?

do KLM operate MD-11s or 747s on the Amsterdam-JFK route?

Just thought I’d mention—it used to be pot luck whether you got KLM or Northwest fron Schiphol(code share),don’t know if this still applies, after the KL/AF merge. Anybody?

That seems kind of odd, even for an alliance. UA and LH have multiple ORD-FRA runs but I’m sure you’re pretty aware of what flight you’re on. I fly FRA-PHL in July on LH. Perhaps I’ll get lucky and surprisingly have my flight operated by US! 😀

Transatlantic KLM and NW are to all intents and purposes one airline. So yes when flying there you will get some routes handled by KLM and some handled by NW. JFK is a KLM flight.

Should be a 737 out of London, can’t guarentee a 777 from Schipol though. It’s all subject to change and available equipment.

How many AMS-JFK frequencies does KL have, and do they typically use the 777 on that route? I know I used to see thier MD11’s there often prior to them taking delivery of the 777.

If you booked the entire journey with KLM at the same time, you are through booked, and you will not see your baggage at Schiphol. It’s all taken care of.

I don’t know current equipment on these routes without checking. Try looking for your flight numbers on the BAA Heathrow arrivals/departure boards for today((on the net),should be same on YOUR day),and the same for the Schiphol site,if there is one!

Question 1: Which airline? KLM, Northwest ?

Question 2: Normally your baggage goes straight through to the final destination assuming it’s the same airline or alliance all the way. As for yourself, you should be given the relevant boarding cards at the point of departure for the whole trip, again assuming this is the same airline all the way. If not, it’s a case of bag’s off, bag’s on and making those check in times at the changeover.

I suppose it all depends on which airline you are flying, but if you’re flying the same airline all the way through, you will not have to collect your luggage, nor check out and check back in, from that matter. At Schiphol, you’ll just have to walk from one terminal to the other. You might have to pass through a security checkpoint again, since your connecting flight is departing to the U.S. But you won’t have to go landside, guaranteed.
