Who assigns gates to airlines at Pier 4A (Domestic and Republic of Ireland flights)? I have often seen bmi vehicles parked in certain bays along with magazine trolleys in the gangways.

bmi use Pier 4A purely for their DUB flights, all other bmi services go from round the corner. BAA have a computer which assigns gates, however mostly this only operates within a given range of gates ie bmi flights to DUB will always be given stand 90 or whatever.

Yeh, I thought Aviance might have had a batch of gates just for bmi at Pier 4A.

I know in Dublin there is a special tower (I think its actually a room) which assigns gates.
If you have ever flown from Pier 4A you will have seen that some gates have BD titls and some have EI titles. Gate 90 has EI titles so I think only EI use that gate. Along along the pier different airlines have their own gates well mainly BD and EI.
