Boeing buys out Airbus at Air Canada this time. 96 new B777 and B787, but at the same time Boeing will take Air Canada’s eight A330 and up to fifteen A340.
Same as with Singapore Airlines, where Boeing took seventeen A340 to place more B777s.
Seems like used A340 will be cheap in the next couple of years!

PS: I think what Airbus actually said was that they wouldn’t provide warrantee support for said airplanes supplied by Boeing
that too.

Dammit, now you’re making it sound like Boeing’s attempt to sell 767s to the US Air Force for tankers! 😀 :diablo:
Andy
Im neither for A or B, but what really p*sses me off is how the Boeing fan group keep moaning about Airbus subsidies and alike. Its funny how the US govt will only buy Boeing (fair enough, supporting its own etc), but then they moan about subsidies and alike from the European Union and its member states – its all funding in a differant light.
Lets think of the USAF/USN inventary…
Boeing C40
Boeing B52
Boeing C17
Boeing F15A/B/C/D/E
Boeing C/KC-135
Boeing AV8B Harrier
or other American built types…
GD F16
Lockheed C130
Douglas KC10
Douglas C9 Nightingale
Sikorsky Helos

As I see it, such practice determines your market success via the size of your credit limit. I’m well aware of the other not-so-sound incentives given in the airliner business, but it is just a short-term strategy to oust your competition. It can by definition not make a profit, else the others would do it themselves. It’s compareable to single day registrations done by automotive companies to boost their statistic market share.
Marketing by pimping.

So you don’t want a new car? Alright, what if I was to chuck in a bevy of dancing girls, three more new cars in case the other one gets dusty or dirty, enough spare wheels to last you a lifetime, some Cuban cigars, a lifetime’s supply of beer, and not actually want any money for the new car at all?
Dammit, now you’re making it sound like Boeing’s attempt to sell 767s to the US Air Force for tankers! 😀 :diablo:

……And Airbus will threaten to not maintain the aforementioned 2nd hand aircraft that customers purchase from Boeing and not Airbus.
And since when have Airbus maintained aircraft anyway – that’s usually down to the operating airline or a third party MRO.

I can tell you’re not a salesman. Because if you were, you’d recognise these sorts of deals (with incentives) go on all the time in all sorts of industries, not just cars and airplanes.
The only reason that the pro-Airbus people are getting all bent out of shape about what’s happening is that they think that Boeing might sell on Airbus a/c at lower prices than are available in the general marketplace, thus devaluing the Airbus product.
And of course Airbus won’t offer the same sorts of deals, because if they did they’d have hundreds of clapped out Boeings stuck on their back-lot! 😉
Andy
Yeah, Boeing customers tends to keep their planes for 20 odd years :diablo:
