Hi all,
Whilst waiting at Prestwick on Wednesday for those little Aravas, word came through from a friend in air traffic that a private Boeing 747SP was coming in from some crew training. At first I thought it was too good to be true, after all, how many private B747SP’s are in service these days!
Yet twenty minutes later guess what was making its first of twelve approaches! A little over 30 years after its first flight, VP-BAT was looking as good as the day she rolled off the production line. Serving as a passenger airliner for Pan Am and United, this SP joined the Qatar Amiri flight during the mid nineties and is still being used to transport the Qatar royal family and other high ranking VIP’s.
Sorry if I’ve gone a little OTT with the pictures, its not every day you get to see a 747SP on your door step 🙂

Thanks Alan I’m using a Sony 1080P HD Camcorder now which has helped a lot in improving the quality of my WMV’s.
Here’s a link to a touch and go from the 747SP.
http://www.saap.co.uk/Movie60-747SP-Prestwick-10-12-08.htmlAnd also one of the main feature of the day which was the AN22 arriving.

P.S. The noise that is drowning out the AN22 was a Tucano which was taxiing by the Mound, for a little plane it makes an awful racket.
Good work Fred and a tripod too, best way to do it. I shoot 1080 as a matter of course at work these days, I’ve been saying it for a while but I need to make more time for “the hobby” in 2009.;)

Great video Fred, you must have been stood just up from me. Were you near a guy with a set of step ladders?
Yes that was me I came through with a friend for the good visitors.
I’m sure I got you in my footage, I’ll send you a link direct to see if I did.
Fred.

Well, this particular sun-loving gas-guzzler is based at Bournemouth.
Nice shots, Martin. 🙂

I thought all those gas guzzlers were baking in the Mojave sunshine
Qatar has sunshine too. And they own the oil, so they are the ones who can afford oil guzzlers. A pity that they did not buy the pointy nosed ones…

Thanks mate, no sadly I missed the An-22 and the Aravas due to work 🙁
The SP was a huge bonus though as was the Transavia 737, we haven’t seen one of those here for a while after the pulled out a few years back. He started just after 9am and was still bashing the CCT at half four! Next day he was still at it!

Very nice,Martin.
I was lucky enough to be at PIK while it was there too, a 5 minute visit and saw the SP a Cargolux and a Tucano (Which buzzed me on the M74 an hour later!!) Did you not manage any shots of the An22? i think i missed it by about 20 mins as i had to leave as i was working, or the Aravas??(Which left this morning incidentally)
