…Football on the other hand is the most popular sport in Europe, and therefore I think you are slightly out-numbered when you guys say you dont give a toss.

How many watched the England match the other day?
18 million?
A lot, I grant you but that is not everyone in Britain, is it (taken that there are 60+ million people in this country). How many of those watching are just hangers-on? You know the sort – the kind who jump on a band wagon whenever one passes by…
Popular, maybe. But annoying two thirds of the population does not make you out numbered us.

Still not giving a toss,

geedee, although it doesnt make you a hero, it does mean a lot for your country (pride in your country, you want it to do well in all areas no matter what). Heroes? No. Footballers who have a hell of a lot of pressure and are either made or destroyed in just 90 minutes. They should be respected because it requires a lot of skill, and no they may not save peoples lives or go into wars knowing that they may well die, but then not many people on this side of the world these days do. So dont complain about us liking football, and have some pride in your country (what many people have died for), supporting it at all times. If you dont like it then shut up. I dont like military aviation, that doesnt make me go into the military aviation forum and tell everyone I think that, and I respect that others do like it. It just doesnt do anything for me. Football on the other hand is the most popular sport in Europe, and therefore I think you are slightly out-numbered when you guys say you dont give a toss.

Heroes my arse. Pampered overpayed drama queens they are. Still, that term aside, they did us proud. It was a game of two halves. It could have gone either way. They think it’s all over…..

I agree with you entirely Goat boy, no not heroes but they did us proud, bring on the Pork and Cheese, we’ll see them off as well.

Clearly more heroic than the Aberdeen fishwife netball teams 1:0 defeat to the Grimsby rough smelly dockers birds team.

Now, now chaps.

Each to their own. Imagine how dull and grey the world would be if we all had identical thoughts and interests.

A bit like Milton Keynes, in fact! 😮

And clearly a far greater and more significant human achievement than Spaceship One’s sub orbital flight today.

Of course. How could you think otherwise…

They are all heroes.
What they did was infinitely better than fighting for your country, braver than any firefighter who goes into a burning building not knowing if it might collapse on him, or any copper going up against a man waving a sword around aggressively in public, or an RNLI or Coastguard crew battling against a storm to rescue those in trouble on the seas.
So heroic…

I hope we dont end up with another load of ‘Hero’ twoddle from the media !!!!!.
Can someone explain to me how kicking a football / rugby ball makes you a hero, cos I’m b*ggered if I can see the similarity between saving someones life and kicking a ball in the back of the net !!! ?
