I have heard of the idea of a space elevator before but I never gave it much thought. Here link providing some info.

Maybe it could work – but i think 2018 is a bit too ambitious. what if it gets stuck half way up? it’ll take a long time for the engineer to get there to fix the problem! how long would it take to get to the other end? wouldn’t it be a bit lonely?
