Here’s a counterpart to Flood’s other thread. What are your favorite cover songs?
Here’s some of mine…
Megadeth-Problems (Sex Pistols)-I think they actually pulled this one off a lot better than their “other” Pistols cover 😎
Dee Snider-Go To Hell (Alice Cooper)
Fear Factory-School (Nirvana)-thoroughly amusing 😀
Monster Magnet-Into The Void (Black Sabbath)-flat out rocks
Megadeth-These Boots (Nancy Sinatra/Lee Hazlewood)-if you haven’t heard it, go find it. You will laugh. A lot. 😀
Hey Kabir, does this one count as a cover? Metallica-The Four Horsemen 😉

Hmm, just heard the Flying Lizards version of the Beatles Money – better, in my opinion!

Two more…Chris Farlowe’s version of Out Of Time, penned and recorded originally by the Rolling Stones, and Joe Cocker’s version of The Beatles With A Little Help From My Friends 🙂

~GLARE~ :p (No empty yoghurt pot yet, but just wait till lunchtime! ;))
One of my favourite covers has to be Speedway’s rocked up version of Christina Aguilera’s Genie In A Bottle…one to listen to whilst belting down the M11 at illegal speeds 😀

Like Walk on by – Stranglers
I saw the Stranglers a couple of weeks ago, Fantastic. I’ve seen them about a dozen times and the last one is the only time I’ve heard them do walk on by.
the new album is good too, a return to form.
How about SLF doing Running Bear/ White Christmas.
😀
A band called “My Life Story” did a cover of Duchess by the Stranglers.

That reminds me, a little known UK band called Warm Jets did a blinding version of The Model a few years ago. They were touted as the next bright young things to emerge from the a*se end of the “Brit Pop” era, sadly they didn’t go very far.

Totally agree – on the Johnny Cash cover of ‘Hurt’ (so different, so prophetic) and the whole Tori Amos album.

Rod Stewart’s “First Cut Is The Deepest” – covered by Sheryl Crow
This was itself a cover version, a Cat Stevens song, it was originally done by PP Arnold back in 1967.
“Mrs. Robinson” by the Lemonheads is a good cover, also “Handbags and gladrags” another Rod Stewart “cover,” orignally done by Chris Farlow in 1966.

I like Johnny Cash’s version of Highway Patrolman originally done by Bruce Springsteen on his Nebraska album. When he covered songs he put his mark on them and made them his.

Stand By Your Man in the Blues Brother’s version is brilliant, the rest of the music from that film is perfectly boring.
Other ones:
Guantanamera – Die Toten Hosen
I fought the law – The Clash
Wonderful World – Nick Cave & Shane McGowan
Hang on to your ego – Frank Black
La Bamba – both Los Lobos’ and Rancid are better than Richie Valens’ one IMHO.
Drinking and driving – Dropkick Murphies (the one from the Business sounded authentically drunk, but DM’s is more militant).
