Did you forget (or might you have forgotten) the merchant seamen, the army, the Royal Navy, all in the RAF that do not get emcompassed in the description above, the workers and repairers, the police and the Observer Corps? All the others who did their part? Those from other nations who did similar jobs both here and abroad?

Didn’t forget any of them, but your original question asked who MY heroes were. As I once had serious aspirations to fly for the RAF, I spent a lot of time learning about The Few, and the crews of Bomber Command (who incidentally, and rather disgustingly IMHO, were never awarded a campaign medal), as these were the men displayed the standards of courage and bravery that I may one day have had to live up to.
