For years now the air force is chartering Il-76s. There was a time when there would be 2 or 3 per day, but nowadays this is scaled back to “only” 2 planes a week. However, they only charter them during office hours on work days. And since I work in an office, I usually miss them. Not today though, as the ETD was schedueld for 19:00. Got very lucky in that it was delayed. At 19:00 there was massive rain, but just as it left the rain stopped and the sun came out!
The Il-76 is getting increasingly rare. Eindhoven is really one of the few airports in Europe where it flies regularly. Every monday there is an arrival, that usually departs on thursday. Next to that most of the times there is another in- and outbound flight on thursdays or fridays. Ryanair fly here, so that might make the place interesting for a cheap daytrip.
Last sunday we got the Antonov 225 at Schiphol. If was due to leave monday morning, but something went wrong at push-back. Everything is repaired now, and it is waiting for the wind to turn favourably before it can leave. Current ETD is tentatively set for tonight. It was due to arrive at Eindhoven on monday, but with the delay encountered as Schiphol it will no doubt be delayed.

That AN225 is a monster ..it’s a shame it doesn’t come to this part of the world

Very nice indeed, Peter. Nice to see two unusual aircraft. Thanks for sharing!
