EU summit failure

I don’t know were you heard that France wants a Federal Europe. I never heard any French politicians asking for a such big move. I personnaly believe that we will get it but as you say maybe much later.

That´s the main problem. Putting national interests first. I suppose common interest is what is important, and what is fair should be a priority for a solidarious Europe, or at least for all who are interested in making something common.

Only if you feel that way in the first place, if you don’t want the Federal United States of Europe that France and to a lesser extent Germany wants, then national interests are going to come first. Even our politicians don’t want an FEU, we never signed up for it and we don’t want it. At least not yet. We simply are not ready for this and possibly won’t be in any of our lifetimes.

They say Britain either wants in or out, I want out but not before we have exhausted all the options to get the Europe that ‘we’ want which is a free trade area, not a USE.

As a Brit I say well done to Poland for standing up for what you think is right instead of giving in to the the bully boys of germany.
I just wish our spineless leader would actually put the UK interest first rather than ‘appease’ germany and france.

This situation puts blair in a tricky position – any further discussion will take place at a time much closer to the next general election and the whole eu will again be a big part in that.

I also note that he has now hinted that the population may now get a vote of this subject – probably because he would rather loose a eu vote than a general election.

It´s not bad Geforce, it´s positive of the future of Europe. Victory for the EU-bashers. I don´t think it´s a question of that. I don´t think they care what kind of constitution we make, as I don´t care what they think . All EU agreements have come with many months of negociation and failures. Such an important thing should be planned carefully, so I am glad for it. Drafting a constitution is very important. It´s quite normal that big countries want to have more power and smaller a bigger coute of power. It´s a question of finding a balance. I have to admit that I don´t have a faint idea of the power share, but what´s clear is that Spain can´t have the same votes than Germany and France: I would love my country had the same importance in terms of economic power, demography bases and so on. Spain has got a big relevance and it´s now the eigth economy in the world, and a success story, but still a medium country, despite the idea of an imperial power regained again by “our” Aznar. The Poland case it´s a bit funny. I am quite surprised at Aznar stance. Wants to rule as much as Germany and France, but doesn´t mind that Poland had the same power than Spain…weird. And at the same he joins in a crazy Madrid-Warsaw axil:confused: I also find a bit strange that a country which will receive millions of euros, and which is not in the Union, gets that arrogant and demanding. I dont think the enlargement should be postponed in the case of Poland. You can´t set your rules in a club which you aren´a full member.
