I am leaving for Goa day after tommorow (3rd December). Its a great place… great beaches, nice reen state line etc. Its not buzzing or oozing with activitythough. Its a pretty relaxed and laid back place. That Navy Air Base houses the Bear, some Ka 27( i think?) etc. You will land on that airport only and when you taxi you can se all these aircrafts standing on the apron.

must admit I was thinking about trips ‘up the jungle’ and stuff when I posted this, but having read the above and done a ‘google’ search it does appear that you can visit the Navy museum…. I was only joking today with the young lady that I’m going with about finding some aeroplanes to look at.. looks like i’ve just found some!

Don’t worry, it’s not an IAF base. Goa-Dabolim is Navy, the three remaining Il-38s are stationed there (after the double crash of course) and some smaller stuff. Unfortunately, the Bears are no longer there and have taken up residence at Arrakonam on the other side of the Subcontinent.
If you’re really bored, you should try to get some time on yourself when sitting on the beach. It’s impossible.

yep India.. I thourght there was an airbase nearby as I noticed an accident report from a while back about a mid-air collision between 2 X IL38’s… I think looking over the fence of Indian AF bases and taking pictures is a bit of a no-no…

If that is Goa in India, then there is a Naval Air Museum which includes some fighters and a super rare Indian Navy Super Constellation.
While on the beach I’ll guess you can watch some interesting aircraft coming in. Am I right that the Indian IL-38’s and Bear’s are based here?
