I think the premise is that the Predators built pyramids as hunting shrines for rights of passage rituals for younger Predators. Humans came along later and messed it up-now there’s too many hosts for the aliens and they breed out of control. The Preds go nuclear and the civilization that had sprang up is annihilated. Certainly a stretch, but not as far out there as some of the other ideas.

My guess is that they put the pyramid thing at the south pole specifically to AVOID human interference from mucking up another hunt.

Sorry but I would not be impressed with this sort of thrown together escapism. What I mean is that we would basically be asked to believe that two aggressive alien races have evolved over millions of years, obviously developed the ability to travel across the universe, and yet never came across each other until they encountered the human race…
Alright, it is only science fiction but I’d like to believe that whilst I cannot comprehend how light travel might be possible, nor anything beyond the basics behind a teleportation device, the usual route for exploration would be the same whether we are talking real history or potential story – and with what little I know of these characters they would have been trying to wipe each other out from their first meeting, as opposed to preying on us (sort of dominant species thing).
As a series of films Alien is fantastic, Predator was good (won’t talk about number 2!) but have they really got to the bottom of the barrel and so have to contrive this kind of fusion to keep the viewing public happy? At what point do they throw the Terminator into the mix, and what are the Greys from CE3K and The X Files, etc, going to do about it?
I want truth, I demand realism; I am now going back to my Farscape recordings with its living spaceships and leather fetishists. Err…
