O’Leary in court over alleged order breach
21 April 2005 17:04
Ryanair Chief Executive Michael O’Leary was in the High Court this afternoon as lawyers acting on his behalf fought to keep him out of jail.Ryanair pilot John Goss of Yellow Walls Road, Malahide, is seeking an order for the committal to jail of Mr O’Leary and the company’s head of flight and ground operations, David O’Brien.
Mr Goss claims the company has breached a court order.
Last February Mr Goss secured a High Court order stopping the company from conducting a disciplinary meeting with him pending a full court hearing.
He claimed the disciplinary process was bogus and designed to get at him because he joined a pilots’ trade union and brought a claim of victimisation.
On 13 April last he received notice that he was being suspended on full pay until the proceedings and any subsequent disciplinary proceedings had been brought to a conclusion.
Mr Goss claims this move is in contempt of the existing court order and he is now engaged in a process which if successful could result in the jailing of Michael O’Leary and David O’Brien.
Maybe this will sober MOL up a little.

…They could easily block all handling at the airports etc. meaning he will not be able to fly to Sweden.
Wouldn’t matter…he’d just fly to Norway and sell it as Sweden!!! 😉 😉

What’s this all about? Is O’Leary trying to forbid his pilots to join a Pilot union or what?
I know that he’s been having a fight with the swedish aircrew union a couple of years ago, and the unions in Sweden are really strong – so if he p!sses them of in Ireland I guess he can wait for the reaction to follow even in Sweden and other countries. They could easily block all handling at the airports etc. meaning he will not be able to fly to Sweden.

I have to disagree, as much as I don’t like some of his principles – I can’t help admire that he is just so outward looking, and straight-to-the-point. Sure, he has his moments, he might treat his staff badly – who knows, I haven’t worked for him. I think if you are in that sort of position, you have to be a bit ruthless, just he is more ruthless than some….
I’ll agree, he’s got balls.
But even so, that does not allow him to disrespect the courts.

I don’t think anyone needs to treat employees the way he treats his though… Asian sweatshop factory children get more perks than Ryanair staff.
I heard in the news his latest move has been to ban employees from recharging their mobile phones on Ryanair premises. The electricity cost of recharging a mobile phone is around 1p. Clearly a company that makes £150m in profits has to look after the penny…
Heard exactly that on BBC news 24 this morning. Dreadful.
