Agree with USAgent here though. Things like this could have been avoided, and one individual psycho has nothing to do with politics. I still remember the Dutroux affair in Belgium, and how this, mainly thanks to the British tabloids portretted Belgians like pedophiles.

There should be restrictions on the internet I reckon. Instead of only using Echelon to prevent terrorist attacks from happening, maybe a non-private organisation should keep an eye on what’s happening on the net.

No, let’s start with Toby Studebaker USMC (Ret.) If he were not trying to lure young girls through the internet this incident would have not occurred. It is now being said that on examination his PC contained disturbing pornographic images of children. What 31 year old in their right mind would ever consider embarking on a relationship with a 12 year old? While a 12 year old who might feel they are lacking affection and self esteem might easily be led into an inappropriate relationship with an adult. Remember she was travelling on her own passport which would clearly give her age.

Now, we’ll consider the parents. And yes, it would seem to me they should bear a considerable share of the blame. Letting their daughter use the internet unsupervised for up to 11 hours at a time strikes me as more than a little odd. A 12 year old spending that much time isolated from their peers should be a clear indicator that something isn’t right. British Police have said that a relationship did take place between them. It’s a matter of waiting now to see what form that relationship took before charges are finalised.

As for who’s to blame…start with the young girls parents…who obvioulsy were not regulating her use of the Internet (her time spent in chat rooms)…and, who were obviously not doing a very good job of keeping their eyes on their 12 y/o daughter when that sicko showed up to ‘elope’ with her!

I didn’t intend it to be a gratuitous insult, but more of a to-the-point annoyance for the person trying to be impressive with the suggestive “And its not me…I swear!” – remark. I posted the pics just to make sure he knew what he was talking about. Not a slur against a whole nation, only against an individual.

As for my comments to the pictures… hey, i really think that Marine looks awfully bright, and if i would meet a 12-year old girl looking like that, i would certainly do my best to recognise her as being one.

Just heard on the radio than she is saved and back in MAN and the guy has been arrested in Germany.

It sounds like (according to CDG Police) that they didn’t leave the airport. They certainly took an other flight from CDG.

This story however sounds fishy and I wish nothing bad is gonna happen 🙁

I personnally do not think that the topic of young girls being abducted/eloping with older men is a laughing matter, especially for their friends and families.

And Arthur… Ouch… I know some people have a bone to pick with our transatlantic cousins, but that sounded a tad gratuitous. Not sure it’s the best way to go to start mending fences… We can’t tar an entire country with the same brush because of a few disagreements with a handful of its citizens, can we?
