Comet's Rant OfThe Week

Instead of taking over Ashley’s rant thread, I’ve started my own. My bloody ISP!! Other ISPs allow you to update your account details online, but not mine!! As well as a regular engaged tone when I phone, and “your call is important to us please continue to hold” I now get “our customer service staff are busy thank you and good bye”!! Then automatic cut off. I’ve been trying for the past three weeks to get through to them, and have while Monday (they’re shut on Saturday and Sunday) to give them my new card details.

Give them a glazed look and repeat ,
” I am a fully double glazed , fitted kitchen with vertical blinds and am a child eating devil worshipper ” – then ask for their address , works well too with the Hare Krishna’s too , doesn’t go down well when the wife is with you though.

I find that if you sing loudly and walk in a very erratic manner these people tend to avoid you.

Pick up an item of processed food, read the ingredients, laugh out loudly as you read the additives to yourself in a loud voice is another surefire way of getting people to ignore you.

The other approach is to give totally fictitious details.

In the past I have benn known to give the names and address’s of people I know. This backfired slightly when I was approached by a chap selling special coating for the outside of the house, I gave my friends parents name and address, low and behold they had the process done.

Why do market researchers ALWAYS approach me??

Why can’t you look in some shops without being accosted all the time? We have a bookshop near us, and the bloody owner never leaves you alone. “What are you looking for?”
“I’m just browsing.”
“Do you like fiction or non-fiction?”
“I’m just looking. Really.”
“Whatever you like to read, we’ll have something for you.”
“I’m only looking.”
“Non fiction is over here.”
“What bit of “I’m only looking” don’t you bloody understand?????”

I was once at a dog show, looking through some prints of different dog breeds. The bloody stall holder wouldn’t leave me alone.
“What’s your favourite breed?”
“I’m just looking at the pictures.”
“What breed are you looking for?”
“I’m not, I’m just looking at the pictures like I said.”
“What’s your breed? If you tell me, I can tell you if it’s in stock.”
“I AM NOT LOOKING FOR ANY PARTICULAR BREED YOU ******!”

The saga of my ISP ended on 29th June. I wrote a letter to the ISP (couldn’t do anything on-line with them, it had to be by letter or phone (hahaha)) telling them that as I had spent three weeks unsuccessfully trying to contact them about my new details, they could stick their access package and I was transferring to another provider with immediate effect. On 30th June, I logged on to Virgin.net and went through their process, after they said they accepted direct debit. Imagine how bloody mad I was to get to the last stage only to be told that I would have to pay for the first month’s access immediately by credit card!!!!! The only reason I want direct debit is because I do not have a bloody credit card!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Back to the drawing board, in desperation I tried Freeserve. They accepted me, and I signed up for Any Time. That was the day the forum got hacked, so I couldn’t get the full benefit of 24 hour access!!! On 2nd July I got a phone call from my old ISP offering to sort out the problems I had been having, but I told them it was too late and they had lost my custom.

Another one – companies that have your credit card details saved. So when you visit to place an order, it completes it automatically.

But usually I only visit rarely and there is never an easy option of how to change your details (at least with my 10 second attention span when shopping). As a result I sometimes get irate phone calls when they try and charge an expired or cancelled credit card. Guilty sites from this week: Novatech and Amazon.

Same here 😀 it’s a dead giveaway. Got one just a minute ago, someone called ‘Dave’ from NTL, who didn’t sound like a ‘Dave’.:D
