Last night I went to Stansted and back.
That was not how it was planned but thats what happened.
I was booked on an 20.30 Air Berlin to Nuremburg and I arrived at 20.28 thanks to the M25 and a totally inept taxi driver.
I got in the cab at 17.00(45 mins later than booked for) at home and got back out at 23.45 with a £330.00 fare.
I feel that I know Essex and Hertfordshire quite intimately now, because this burk showed me virtually every road on the way and just for good measure on the way home as well.
I keep saying when we had to get off the M25 due to an accident at J24 head north east toward Cambridge, find the A1M or the A10, but no he wanted to go to either Cockfosters or Enfield, so Enfield it was with every man and his uncle also try to find a way around the closed M25.
No more flights available when I eventually got to the desk so its turnaround time. I ask matey to head across country to find the A414 and eventually A41 to Aylesbury so on to Oxford, but no he insisted that the M25 would now be clear. It was not, nor was it at the next three junctuions around, because he tried to get on at every one, via Hertford, Hatfield and every other place in between.
This was complicated by the fact that he had no maps in the car , the radio did not work to get traffic info and he was recently imported from Nigeria with little English.
I hasten to add I did not book him, nor did I pay his bill (nor have my employers either !). I did however have to cancel three days of meetings , hotels etc as the next guaranteed available flight was Tues.
I have rebooked the whole lot for next week, so next Sunday I will embark on another journey to Stansted to board to 20.30 to Nuremburg, I HOPE:mad: 😡 😡 😡

330£????? My god! That is a real LOT! My advice, takt the train / underground / whatever. It’ll be quicker and cheaper 🙂
Last month, I did LCY – Edgeware for 40£ in 45 minutes, and… on the way back, I took the underground, and it did cost me around 10… Ok, I’ took me a bit more than one hour, but I made a little stop at Regent Street (not really the shortest line to the airport), and decided to take docklands train, which also added some time. Funny, though.

Thanks Guys,
At least I will have been to Waddington the day before so will be in a good mood come Sunday.
I have absolute guarantees from the Taxi company that the boss will take me next time in their best car, so if you see a blacked out roller heading up the MII at about 6.00pm next Sunday wave……… it might be someone important.
PS
Thanks Kev35, I’ll pass your details onto my Secretary !.

What a day! Sorry to hear it was so unsuccessful and wish you a pleasant second attempt next week!

Sounds like a very interesting trip – far better to see parts of this Sceptered Isle than Germany. You should think yourself honoured.

Philo.
Pay me a hundred quid and I’ll take you to Stansted by the route of your choice.
Sorry it was all a bit of a disaster for you. Hope you have better luck next week.
Regards,
