Not very familiar with the relationship between these two, is there the chance of conflict between Iran and Pakistan?
Have there been any flare ups recently?
What does Iran make of Pakistans nuclear program, is it concerned about the possibility of nukes sitting on their doorstep?
Are there any ethnic differences between the two (such as opposing groups)?
Would Iran come to Pakistans aid in time of crisis – or would Pakistan even want Iranian aid (vice versa)?
Are there any major airbases/naval facilities/army garrisons close to the border?

Pakistan use to enjoy close relations with Iran during the Shah of Iran days. It all changed with Islamic revolution came in Iran. The Shia Irani mullahs do not like Sunni Pakistan. Therefore they rolled back the close relationship that our two countries use to enjoy.
Pakistan & Iran use to be so close that during the ’71 Pak-India war, Pakistan sent its 12 Priced Mirage IIIs to Iran for “safe-keeping.”
Iran is not an enemy of Pakistan, but Iran & Pakistan are not the best of friends either. Its stupid & sad for both Iran & Pakistan.
Note: Shia & Sunni are two major Islamic sects.

The fact that the Taleban and Hekmatyr (spelling) were originally enemies in afghanistan, but now the reminants of the Taleban now seem to have joined Hekmatyr suggests that though they will have differences they can certainly unite to fight a common enemy.

I don’t think Iran has any issues with India, there was a rumour (or maybe it was a fact) that India was wanting to base some troops in Iran. Also the relationship between Iran and China is not that close, nothing like Pakistan and Chinas.

According to Huntington (Clash of Civilisations) both countries should become close allies in this century. Both have a common enemy: India and Israel and one common friend : China.

a) go to ACIG and ask the numerous iranian experts there (eg Tom has written two books on iran)
b) no bases on border
c) neither close allies nor enimes -no real disputes other than over afgansitan in the 90’s (pakistan for taliban, iran for opposition).
