Why are you living abroad?

I know that some of you are living abroad. Can you tell us why?

Do some other consider moving abroad?

If I could : South Africa or Australia. Maybe when I graduate and have the option to work abroad as a journalist.

True, I hate it when you’re right.

Born here but brought up in the West Country, moved back because of family ties, now the main reason is career and life style.

Much better standard of living here in Jersey, even though the cost of living is higher my tax bill is basically 10% of what we earn compared to 22% in the UK.

In time we will probably have to move back to some-where in the UK so that my wife has easier access to her parents, it can be a pain trying to get to them from the island when there’s a crisis.

Yes, but not for at least another year. Looking at Canada.

Yes Hand, I can even see La Manche on a clear day but still there is naturally a huge British influence on the island. In a way I feel sorry how we have lost contact with our French neighbours when they have played such a large role in our history. But yes I am getting closer though it might as well still be a million miles a way 😉

I would very much like to move to France in later years. I love the family emphasis and the relaxed culture that is unique to France.

I’ve often fancied living abroad. I visited Australia and New Zealand back in 1995, and liked the places so much I thought it would be nice to emigrate there. I also fancied living in Iceland – I adored the country, visited six times in ten years and thought I would like to work with the Icelandic horses at a trekking centre. I fancied living in LA if I could train to be a vet, or else work as an operating theatre technician at Cedars Sinai Hospital. I would like to live in Belgium – great places, great food and drink, friendly people.
All those are of course pipe dreams. Although I am a qualified scientist, I am not on the “desirable professions” list of the countries I like, and then of course you need lots of money to be able to afford to emigrate successfully.

Generally down to my parents … who dragged me here in ’88 before I could put up any serious complaint.

Im an american living in Mexico. Im in the process of trying to become a citizen of Mexico, and really the only thing thats holding me back is interferance from people in the US as Mexico has shown willingness to accept me. I concider myself a prisoner of the US rather than a citizen. Im not the type to sit back at let me hold me down and so I will become a Mexican sooner or later. Why would I want to leave the richest nation in the world to become part of a poor nation with lots of problems? It has to do with family values that I cant comprimize. Theres more to life than money.
