I’m back from the dead and I have a wee question or request, whatever you like…
I’d like to make avio-compilation to use in my car, but I don’t have
enough music… actually I have way too little music. So, if anyone knows any more air-related songs i’d appreciate.
Oh yeah, metal or hard rock…
This is my list by now:
Iron Maiden – Aces High
Iron Maiden – Back in the Village
Bathory – 109
Bathory – Death from Above
Saxon – 747 (Strangers in the night)

Thanx, I think I have to go there some time in the future. 😉

Aerospace Museum at Cosford has a Lincoln Bomber.
Several people have reported the spectral image of a long dead crew member as having been seen in it.
As far as I know there were no Lincolns ever lost in action so one can only presume he’s the baffled shade of a Lancaster bod looking for where the hell they put the exit.

Hmm… Could someone please enlighten me what is going on here…
Seems like I skipped my “ghost” class. 😉

Indeed, that was the one.
And no, miraculously, I got an A 😉

Steve,
Failed Geography at school by any chance? 😉
You missed by about 85 miles
“Ghost Of The Navigator is indeed a metallic sea shanty, but with a little imagination you could be in the cockpit of that haunted Halifax at Cosford”
Lincoln dear boy, Lincoln.

Not surprising Iron Maiden have a lot of aviation influence as Bruce D1ckinson is a type rated pilot on both the 737 and 757.
By: KabirT - 26th March 2003 at 07:02
And to add another famous one…Steve Faltermayer – The Top Gun Theme.

Airplanes in Music
Jimmy Buffett has tons of songs including airplanes….
(You know, that guy who wrote Wasting away again in Margaritaville….) He not only sings (OK, some of you don’t call what he does singing…. I can live with that… )
He has a Grumman Albatross, a Stearman, Falcon 50 corp jet, and a large Cessan turboprop float plane…

http://www.geocities.com/pittmantlh/JBPlanes/jbplanes.html
http://www.lpba.org/jb2000.html
He has flown for years, and had numerous experiences while flying… He actually survived his crash on takeoff in his Grumman Widgeon near Boston’s Cape Cod. Got shot at by Jamaican police thinking he was a drug runner, etc.
I can’t think of a musician who has not only written so many songs about airplanes, but actually lived his songs…
Jamaica Mistaka

Strange Bird

Tree Top Flyer (hidden track at end of Banana Wind album)
Somewhere over China

Desdamona’s building a rocket ship (Cosmic Muffin, a Boeing Stratoliner now a boat)

But I know he did not write Itazuki Tower! I have the old LP with those flying songs on em…

Steve Beebee, thanks for refreshing my memory… how could I forget Tailgunner… As it goes for Ghost of navigator, I have srong feeling that it is about ship navigator (…as they SAIL into the sunset…/…skeletons accusing emerge from the SEA… etc)
And I alsos forgot…
hmmm….
Kenny (Loggins?)- Highway to the Danger Zone
And I found this one on net yesterday:
Landser – Bomber über Dresden
Once again, thanks for all your help. (I’m shure I’m not the only one who finds this thread usefull ;))

Presumably I can’t write **** Turpin or **** Cheney or **** Whittington either 😉

The song by Filter is called ‘Take My Picture’ and does indeed contain numerous airplane references, specifically “awake on my airplane, awake on my airplane” – always good advice to pilots.
There’s also ‘Aeroplane’ by the Chili Peppers, and numerous Iron Maiden tracks:
Aces High
Ghost Of The Navigator
Flight Of Icarus
Tailgunner
Silver Wings (Bruce ****inson solo)
Back From The Edge (ditto)
Re-Entry (ditto, and most of Bruce’s ‘Skunkworks’ album for that matter)
Plus there is:
Bomber – Motorhead
747 (Strangers In The Night) – Saxon
Forever Free – WASP
Thousand Yard Stare – Big Country
Wings Of Fire – Dare (ouch!)
Ride Into The Sun – Def Leppard
Fly To The Angels – Slaughter
Jet Pilot – System Of A Down
Fly High Michelle – Enuff Z’Nuff
Jets – Space Age Playboys
Jet City Woman – Queensryche
Auto Pilot – Queens Of The Stone Age
Murder In The Sky – Gary Moore
Watch Them Fly Sundays – Stereophonics
Rocket Engines – Warrior Soul
Ah…..METAAAL !!!!!
EDIT – why on earth has this message board edited the word ****inson!!??? That’s the man’s name for Gawd’s sake 😀

Pink Floyd – Learning to Fly

Anyway, thanks for all this songs, keep ’em comming. 😉

Thanks guys, you leave me all the stupid ones except for Bach’s Air…. The least i can hope for is that you’ll be humming one of the following songs for the next few days:
“Jet airliner” – Modern Talking
“Ca plane pour mois”- Plastique Bertrand (hey, it’s got plane in the title right?)
“Leaving on a jetplane” – John Denver
“Love missile F1-11” – Sigue Sigue Sputnik
“(I don’t wanna die in an) Air disaster” – Albert Hammond
“Fly away” – Lenny Kravitz
“99 Luftballons” – Nena (please not the English version).
“Enola gay” – OMD[ (this one beats Motorhead’s Bomber for sure!)
“Learn to fly” – Foo Fighters
“Learning to fly” – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
“Flight 643” – DJ Tiësto
“Flight of Icarus” – Iron Maiden
“Ritt der Walküren” – Richard Wagner (well, the valkyries are actually riding but nobody told FF Coppola when he used it as a soundtrack for Hueys, Loaches and a few F-5s to blow up a village in Apocalypse Now).
“Alec Eiffel” – Pixies
If the sky is not yet the limit, you might also add:
“Ashes to ashes” – David Bowie
“Völlig losgelöst” – Peter Schilling (no, again not the English version)
This is just a first handfull, there literally are hundreds if not thousands of songs which have something to do with flight, sky, air – and if you want to add space as well, it gets even worse.
EDIT: Only see now it should have been metal… well, a few of those mentioned are on the rougher edge of musicland…
By: KabirT - 24th March 2003 at 16:47

By: Hand87_5 - 24th March 2003 at 16:45
