You seem to see alot of documantarys on tv about rock history. When ever I see anything about 60s british rock bands, I always here mention about the Marquee club. Since there are a few “senior” members of this forum who have first hand knowledge of the british rock scene of the 60s, maybe they could tell something about this place.

Yes, it was Matlock. But he still played on most of the recorded stuff as a session musician. Problem was, he liked the Beatles too much, and din’t get on well with the rest of the band particularly – especially Johnny. Many tricks were played on him too, some of which were a bit too gross to post…lol. He’s still playing though, and has played with the band the two times they have reunited for gigs / tours. They still think he’s a tosser though!

Yea I remember seeing something on TV about it, who was their original bass player? Glen Matlock wasnt it? I bet he was a bit p*ssed off at losing out to a non musical moron like Viscious

The Sex Pistoils filmed the video of ‘God Save The Queen’ there in 1977 – Sid Vicious had just joined on bass and had to be shown how to hold it for the video – clearly he was not playing on the record…
A lot of the punk bands played there in the 1970’s.

Yea ! I went there in mid 60s to see the Who, it was supposedly the inplace to be , it was dark, small, and smokey, and very loud, but when you’re only 17 who cares. Most of the big names in rock music played there , The Who, The ‘Stones, Small Faces, Cream, Hendrix etc etc, and a band who I thought were one of the best bands around at the time, The Graham Bond Organisation, both Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce played for the band before forming Cream…………..So, in the 60s and70s if you wanted to see the top rock bands the Marquee was the place to be (funnily enough the Beatles never played there, at least I dont think they did)…btw it was in Wardour Street Soho, I think it closed down in the 80s . Although I live in South London I rarely venture north of the river into the heart of our bustling capital.
