[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-01-03 AT 11:30Â PM (GMT)]I currently have a Nokia 3310, and as of late I have had nothing but problems with it, not recieving messages, constant freezing, its keeps flashing on and off alot.
Has anyone had the same sort of problems with theie mobile?
I am looking into buying a new model, but am stuck on which to choose, either the Nokia 3510, the 8310 or the 7210. I would love to have the 7210, but the price is just a little to high for me.

The 7210.
Which of these phones would you recommend as being the most reliable?
Many thanx. 🙂

RE: Mobile phones.
I’m a bit of an outsider – the Nokias are just so common and every1 wants to nick em! – i’m a loyal Siemens Customer – on C45 at the mo! – still works fine with a gud reception when i’m supposed to be out of range in this neck of the woods! – also it’s bouncy – dropped it twice climbing and it still works! – the C25 aereil snapped off and was blu tacked in till it felll off and got lost – still worked for a bit tho with the back selotaped on and hid in a case! – hehehe – cheap ##### i hear u calling!!

RE: Mobile phones.
Glad to see that I’m the only mug who has an Ericsson!
I had one of those dinky T28’s and liked it. When it was time for a change I got a new T65 with WAP, GPRS and all the rest. Unfortunately it is complete rubbish. It hangs at least once every five calls and I have to lever out the sim card to get it to work again.
It’s been back to the shop a few times but it is “within normal parameters” so I’m stuck with it.
On the Isle of Man the standard cost is £30 per month line rental with expensive call charges on top of that. It’s also a fiver each for voicemail and itemised billing!
I’m seriously fed up and thinking of just not having a cell anymore.

RE: Mobile phones.
Well guys thanks, you have given me a bit of an insight into the types of phones that are currently avaliable, but I have decided to buy the 7210, not cheap though, £299.99!!! But we’ll see how it goes.
Thanks for all your help. 🙂

RE: Mobile phones.
Have a 5110, and also often didn’t recieve SMS… But I guess it’s more operator related… I went to a shop, and they told me I had to do an “H&R check” with the operator (It seems to ba an update of the SIM card).. Mine hadn’t been updated for more than 2 years!!!
I did it and now it works better.
Maybe you shouldd ask them?
I just have one little problem, the battery gets quickly empty, it has the same age as the phone… 4 years at least. So, I’ll change it soon, ang get one with vibrating function, because I never hear my phone when in the pocket.
If I change the whole phone, I have to get a nokia with the same connectors, because of my car kit…
I got a 6310 from the company some days ago for a business trip. I have to say it works quite well… I like it 🙂
And also i had a GPRS modem in the laptop. These things rock! But are overly expensive, especially the communications!

RE: Mobile phones.
iMode is available here in the Netherlands nowadays in just the obnoxious marketing campaign you expect: hand out the phones for almost free, have the first few months of the contract very cheap, in order to get people hooked. After which you can pay through your nose. I have no experience with it myself, but i don’t really see the use of it apart maybe for obnoxious jokes.
I did hook-up a cell-phone to a laptop once in a while, to send an article i had just written to the editors. Not really a big deal, but i did it through a direct linkup and not via internet or email.

RE: Mobile phones.
Does anyone here use their cell phone to connect their PDA or Laptop to the internet? Also Ive heard the japanesse iMode system is being tried in Europe, anyone seen that?

RE: Mobile phones.
I had a Nokia 8210 and the screen went all funny on me, sometimes it wouldn’t display anything and at other times it would work fine.
I now have the Nokia 7210 and it’s a sweet phone, I would highly recommend it to you!!
If your budget can handle it! 😉
Cheers,

RE: Mobile phones.
My mobile is on the Virgin system and my direct debit bill monthly is typically less than £1.50! I don’t do text, WAP or games and have no monthly fee. The 3210 is the same size as later mobiles, sends and receives calls exactly the same way so why should I buy fancy phones that do exactly the same when my mates are throwing away perfectly good handsets that do everything I need them to do!
By the way, being wealthy is as much about controlling what you spend as maximising what you earn. How do you justify spending several hundred quid on a phone that goes out of fashion quicker than a ‘Girls Aloud’ single?

RE: Mobile phones.
Ive got the nokia 3510 and when you talk on it, it burns fuel like the airbus a340-500, I only have to charge it weekly !!!

RE: Mobile phones.
Hi Andrew
I’ve got a Nokia 8310 and as yet Ive had no problems with it
Its pretty expensive if you want it on “pay as you go” but with a contract you get the ‘phone free, apart from the usual(text and phone) its WAP its got FM radio ,voice recorder, and about six games, Ive had the phone about 8 months with no probs

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-01-03 AT 10:25 PM (GMT)]But T5, whats the point? He can’t use it if he does get a more modern one, as It will interfear with the Aircraft’s electronics. 😛 😉

RE: Mobile phones.
There is nothing more embarrassing than when my phone rings. The amount of looks I get because my phone just doesn’t sound real!
Wysiwyg – surely on your salary you can splash out on something a little more modern?! 😉

RE: Mobile phones.
My friend has got a Samsung mobile T5, the A300. And funnyily enough he found it at LHR on the spectators roof last June.
He loves it. But like you hate the ringtones, as they are to, polyphonic!

RE: Mobile phones.
I’ve just acquired third hand a 3210 (shows how behind the times I am) but if I try to give it a top up charge when the battery is half full it will only recharge for a couple of minutes before saying the battery is full when it isn’t. If the battery is properly empty it will recharge normally. Is my battery knackered?

I got the 3310 as well, but no probs as of yet.

RE: Mobile phones.
You may be unlucky with your 3310, A330 – my one has been ultra reliable, robust (dropped it many times)and simple to use.
My only gripe is the battery – gets very tired nowdays after 18 months use.
Off thread for a second A330 – although not an airliner fan, I find the A330 awesome to watch. Can you recommend any good photos of it on the move? (landing/taking off etc)
Thanks,

I got a rather nice little Samsung T100. What I hate most are the ringtones, those dreadful polyphonic ones which sound like a kids toy phone – sounds really cheap!
The facilities and colour screen are great though.

RE: Mobile phones.
Thats what I thought the problem with my phone could be, the battery. The phone seems to freeze when ever anyone holds it. And when your holding you have got your hand over where the battery is situated. What I didn’t know is, that it may freeze cos with your hand your are heating the battery with heat from your body, so could this be what is causing the problem with my Mobile?
