Had a couple of electricians in the office yesterday, installing and ‘plumbing’ …if I can use that word in this context…in extra power sockets for all the Pc’s I have and it gave me a lot of entertainment watching them struggling with three sets of copper cored cable , poking them through small holes etc etc. While this was going on, I got to wondering if as a race, us humans would ever get around to discovering an alternative to electricity for our power needs….had a lot of time on my hands see, cos the power was turned off and so couldnt possibly work, oh no sireeee.
I mean, its pretty complicated when you have to use three different cables that arent allowed to touch each other, that each do a job none of the other two could do at the same time, just so you can use your pc !.
Obviously, this new miracle power scource would have to be globally universal, so that everything that depends on electricity could be modified to use it…and yes I know you can buy a digital clock that you stick in a potatoe or orange and it works, but Itd take whole shed load of Satsuma’s to run my PC !
Any ideas ? could lasers or fibre optics be used to transport it ?
Over to you
Cheers

RE: Alternative to electricity
Hamsters in wheels. Using friction for energy instead of electricity. It was tried in sweden 3 years ago – 7 hamsters ran a 350MHZ computer with 128 mb RAM. It was fine for 40 minutes, then they had to swap the hamsters (need 4 sets changed at this interval to keep it going all the time).
